Assists went to Peter Schoep 2, Doug Parkin Parkin and Jason Hoffman 1 each. The real win the Toros took was in the Welland Little Little N.H.L. International Tournament. The boys played like well tuned instruments. instruments. They gave a hit and took a hit, not to mention mention score goals. The big success success story was our goaltend- ing. together Byron Hamum ana Steve Oke let 5 goals in for five games and had two shut-outs. They played like real N.H.L. stars. Over 5 games the boys managed to score 28 goals. Ryan Robinson, Robinson, Bruce Harnum and Jeff Murphy all had 1 hat trick a piece plus singles. The tournament tournament went a little something something like this. The boys were worried about playing Leamington, a tough team who they had previously won ana lost against. The anxiety showed but the Toros as always came out ahead. They won 4-1. Goals were scored by Doug Parkin 2, Peter Schoep 1, Ryan Robinson 1, assists went to Jason Jackman 1, Peter Schoep 2, Chris Hcf- fernnn 1, Jeff Murphy 1 and Doug Parkin. M.V.P. wont to Rynn Robinson who deserved it. Perhaps tlm biggest victory victory was the game against Hamilton in tlm somi-ilnnls. The boys played good hockey and took no penalties. This really paid-off, literally it paid $200.00 to the Canadian Canadian Tire Major Pee Wee Team. Assists were as follows, follows, 2 for Jason Jackman, Doug Parkin and Ryan Robinson, Robinson, 1 each for Bruce Harnum, Harnum, Bruiser Bate, and Jason Jason Hoffman. Goals were scored by Ryan Robinson 3, Jeff Murphy 3, Jason Jack- man 1 and Alan McCullough 1. The final score was 8-3. M.V.P. went to Jason Jack- man. The final game was a good feeling for the boys. Before Before the game comments from the guys were, "Just kick butt", "We'll win", "No comment at this time" and "we can do it". It was a nice pick-up after the let down of finishing early in the playoffs. playoffs. The game remained 0-0 until 1:23 was left in the game. Ryan Robinson tried frantically to score a goal but when the goalie let the rebound out, "Bruiser Bate" saved the day and popped it into the slot. The next goal was an empty netter. Chris Heffernan shot it down to center ice and Jason Jack- man passed it to Jeff Murphy Murphy who then put the puck away for gooa! The final score was 2-0. Bruce Harnum Harnum picked up another M.V.P. for this game. It was a well deserved victory for the boys. Not only also defensive crews of Rob Harness and Bruce Hamum as well as Chris Heffernan and Jason Hoffman played to the best of their ability. Forward lines of Ryan Robinson, Robinson, Warren Bate, Peter Schoep, Jeff Murphy, Jason Jackman, Dave Watt, Alan McCullough and Doug Parkin Parkin passed well and did a good job carrying the puck. Coach Paul Jackman, manager manager Ron Haynes, Trainer Steve Oke did a job well done in getting the boys to play to the maximum supreme. supreme. That's all for this week sports fans. This is your little sport's reporter, Nicky Watt, signing off for another week in Bowmanville Bowmanville Minor Hockey. Darlington (Auto's March Break Mini-Tournament with the op" nnd Bruco llnrnum Bruce also took the The Bowmanville's Darlington Darlington Auto Atom Select team hosted three other teams from Trenton, Oshawa and Hamilton for a mini-tournament on March 14th at Darlington Arena. Bowmanville's first game was against N.A.S.C. from Oshawa a team they haven't had much trouble with on the scoreboard but their physical play doesn't make for a fun game. The first period was evenly evenly played for the first period with both goalies playing superbly, superbly, with Bowmanville scoring at the 9:00 minute mark. Scott MacKay with assists to Scott MacDonald and Guy Tousignant. In the second period, we dominated the play with goals by Scott MacDonald, assisted by Scott Mackay, Guy Tousignant assisted by MacDonald and Mackay and Emile Salomon, unassisted. We added another in the third MacDonald from MacKay and Oshawa spoiled our shutout with less then three minutes left in the game. Our second game was against Trenton, a team we had never played. They looked good against Hamilton Hamilton even though they lost, so the coaching staff kacw it would be no easy game. Wo started off with great two-way play but it seemed no one was going to score. Late in the first period, Mike Ferguson kept the puck in at the blue line, fed it to Brian Ball who let the shot go. The goalie made the stop but Scott MacDonald put the rebound in. Both teams wore evenly matched and Darlington Auto Selects were not able to score again until tho last minute of tho game when they managed to score two ■ Darryl Cook from MacKay and Emile Salomon from Tousignant,. Hamilton had also beaten N.A.S.C. and Trenton so at 3:00 p.m. we lined up against each other. Hamilton Hamilton has been a team we had wanted to beat all year and although we have come close we haven't beaten them. We have won against teams who have beaten Hamilton and were looking for the opportunity opportunity in this game. Hamilton, Hamilton, with coach Dave, must have read out minds because because they certainly were ready for us. With less than three minutes minutes to go in the first period we were down 3-0 and we scored with less than a minute minute left in the period, Ryan Brannigan from Ferguson. We exchanged goals in the second period with MacDonald MacDonald scoring from MacKay and Robbie MacCheyne, leaving the score at 4-2 at the end of the period. The boys never quit and at the five minute mark of the third period, Danyl Cook scored with helpers to Ferguson Ferguson and Brian Ball to narrow narrow the score by one. With four minutes to go in the game, MacDonald, who draws a lot of attention from the opposition, was fouled nnd wo had the man advantage. Not only did he force the penalty but during the power play he came streaking down the right side and tho defenceman forced him to go behind the not. As he started behind tho not ho hit the brakes nnd came back out tho same side nnd put the puck in tho empty side. Hamilton didn't wnsto any time in regaining the lend for thirty seconds later they scored again. Tho Darlington Darlington Auto Boys are not quitters either as we tied it up in less than 30 seconds with Emile Salomon scoring from Richard Aasen. But it was not to be. With a minute minute and seventeen seconds left in the game, Hamilton scored to win the game 6-5. Hamilton will be back on April 8th in Newcastle for our Select Tournament and we will have another shot at them. Everyone enjoyed the day, parents, players, visiting visiting teams and it was enjoyable enjoyable hockey to watch. For those boys who weren't weren't mentioned, Phil Gushu- lak, Greg Masterson and Jason Jason Frayne, they were part of our solid team play and our goalies, Scott Sawyer and Cameron Millar, had a 2.0 goals against average over the three games. P.S. Jeff Thrasher, one of our defencemen, was on holidays holidays this week. Former Leaf Star Visits Bowmanville Kinsmen .....
