The Newcastle Village and District Historical Society Society noted in correspondence with the municipality that the original plan for Bond Head indicated that the street in question would be known as Manners St. George Manners was the original owner of land in lot 27 and part of lot 28 on the Broken Front Concession in 1837. In 1838, he organized and was a charter director of the Bond Head Harbour Company However, an atlas of Northumberland and Durham Durham Counties published in 1878 misspelled the original name as Manvers St. And the incorrect spelling has remained in place to the present day. A committee of Council has agreed that Manvers St. will be re-named George Manners St. and added to the street name map and street name inventory of the Town of Newcastle. George Manners Street runs north and south between between Metcalf St. and Bolton Bolton St., said the Town of Newcastle's planning department department in a recent report. The winning student will have a cheerful and positive attitude and will strive to achieve his or her highest proficiency in any area. In a letter to the Board of Education, Hugh Hubbs, Principal of Clarke High School, recommended this award, "Ken was an outstanding outstanding leader in school, more so in the area of sports. He was the team leader, both by his ability and his character," Mr. Hubbs stated. The recipient will be chosen chosen by the staff of Clarke High School with the leadership leadership of the principal. The honor will be presented annually annually at the school's Commencement Commencement exercises., The award has been donated donated by an anonymous donor donor who was impressed by Ken and what others felt about him.
