The Canadian Statesman, Bowman ville, April 11,1990 11 1 I I Ad-Craft Provides Invaluable Experience Students in David Line's grade 12 marketing class at Bowmanville High School participated in a recent educational venture offered in co-operation with The Canadian Statesman. This is the 14th year the Ad- craft project has been carried out. A number of the merchants who have been participating in the project with us have been doing so since it was .initiated. Eveiy year the advertising advertising department at The Canadian Statesman works on a project with Bowmanville High School providing students with an opportunity to gain practical experience in the advertising profession. profession. The project, titled Ad- craft, has been successfully successfully performed in the past 14 years through the assistance of the merchants merchants in the community. Students taking part in the project are part of the grade 12 marketing class at the school. They learn the steps in creating the ad from the initial meeting with the merchant to the design of the ad. Students are able to practice what they learn in the classroom and receive receive a grade on the finished finished product. The project has been extremely successful over the years it has been running. running. Reading Circle Welcomes Special Guest John Green, author of 'There's a Dragon in my Closet" and 'The Birthday Giant" was guest reader at the Reading Circle which operates at the Trinity United United Church on Saturdays from 10:30 to 11:30. There are 20 to 30 children in attendance attendance each Saturday. The program consists of reading in smaller groups for the first half hour, after which a guest reader presents a story to the entire group.
