With the implementation of the new Ontario Provincial Provincial Police Communication System in January of this year, a 1-800 telephone number was assigned to District" District" 8, which includes the Counties of Haliburton, Victoria, Victoria, Peterborough and Northumberland. With your assistance, this telephone number was advertised to the public, and was intended to be used as the number to call when the presence of a police officer was required. The use of the 1-800 number puts the caller in direct direct contact with a Communications Communications Centre Dispatcher, who can immediately contact contact the appropriate patrol car. While the 1-800 number is gaining acceptance, the majority of calls are being received via call-forwarding from our Detachments. The call-forwarding feature will not guarantee all calls are received at the Communications Communications Centre. Should the system system be in use, a second caller caller will get an unanswered ring. This presents an obvious obvious problem in an emergency emergency situation. Once again, we request your assistance in advertising advertising the police response number: number: 1-800-461-6488: 1-800- 461-6487 for TDD/TTY (for . hearing impaired only.) We nope that periodic reminders reminders will increase public use of the 1-800 numbers, and eliminate the concern of ■ an unanswered emergency call. S.H.
