In October of 1988, Gavin entered the Missionary 'Draining Centre in Provo, Utah, to train and study French and Greole for two months before travelling to Haiti. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has been on the Island of Haiti for seven years and Gavin was one of approximately approximately 100 missionaries serving there. Though he spent his time working in five different areas, areas, Gavin was able to visit the entire country. He disliked disliked the food when he first arrived, but came to really enjoy it. The food staples include include rice, beans, goat, mangoes, mangoes, bananas, oranges and pineapples. -The country's main crop is sugar cane. Many of the Haitians live in poverty and the country suffers from political unrest. At times Gavin had to stay inside for days at a time. It was never safe to go out after after dark. Despite these problems, Gavin looks back at his stay in Haiti with many fond memories. He enjoyed his experiences with people of a different culture and made many friends. He certainly enjoyed the warm climate in Haiti and has to adjust to a much colder climate back home. Now that Gavin is home, he is looking to the future and plans to pursue an education education in business., 'Peacodb - . i •• ; . Wendell Sedgwick officiating. officiating. ; The bridal party included matron of honour Kate Bronson, sister of the bride; bridesmaids, Sarah Water- field and Dorothy Bisell, school friends of the bride; flower girl, Jesse Bronson, niece of the bride; Liam Peacock, Peacock, nephew of the groom as ringbearer; Andrew Peacock, Peacock, .brother of the groom, best man. The ushers for the "occasion were Péter and.) George Kneisel and Mark • and Stephen Peacock. Ulrich ter Haar Romeny was organist organist and Sue Lynch, soloist. The church was beautifully beautifully decorated by the Canton Canton ladies for Thanksgiving. A reception followed at the Woo diawn Inn in Cobourg. Guests were present from Florida, Boston, Ottawa, Belleville, Newfoundland and Indiana. The bride was entertained entertained at a shower at the home of her cousin, Kristin, in Toronto. A shower was held in her honour at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Trew, Elizabethville. On Sunday, September 29, brothers of the groom hosted a party at the family farm. A ball game was enjoyed enjoyed by all and a Jack and Jill shower followed. On the evening of October October 5th a dance was enjoyed . by friends of the bride and groom at the Hillview Chalet. Chalet. Mike Brennan, friend of the groom and his band, "The Wayward Angels," supplied supplied music for the evening. While an army dispatch rider in Northern Europe during the latter part of World W r ar II, it dawned on Ted that "there had to be a better way of life than war." This thought finally finally led to a commitment to the ministry of the United Church. Ordained in 1952, Ted has served congregations congregations in Plainfield (Belleville area), Wilmar Heights (Scarborough), (Scarborough), Mount Hamilton. and Glenburnie (Kingston area) United Churches. In his ministry he has also been Mission Officer and Executive Executive Secretary of the Hamilton Conference, of the United Church. Retired' in 1988, Ted has been minister of visitation for Northmim- ster United Church, Oshawa, and has recently, been helping the Bay of Quinte Conference with administrative administrative work. \ Arthur Amacher, minister minister of visitation for many years at Trinity, will be honoured honoured in this sixtieth year of his ordination. Now retired in Bridgeport, north of Kingston, Kingston, Arthur will be remembered remembered by the many senior citizens visited by him - , in nursing homes, hospitals andresider>"° c !. Rev. Ted Kersey Guest Preacher for St. PauVs Anniversary Friends from earlier hockey playing days were reunited last Sunday when the Rev. Harry Seeley was guest preacher at St. Paul's 156th anniversary where he was warmly welcomed by the Rev. Ed. Schamerhom. And, when this photo"was taken just before the morning service began, they were having a good time, recalling recalling past associations and experiences.
