Martin Frampton of Rotary came back with two goals, to end the first period in a 2-2 tie. A goal by Thomas Pohjo- lainen of Rotary early in the second period gave them a short-lived lead. Feb. 23. by Karen and Hank Evans Dutchman Atoms Off to Good Start Flying Dutchman Atom Toros started the new year with an impressive record. On Young canada Day (Jan. 5) they defeated Ajax BB 4- 1. John Marco Cannito was excellent in net and the team played very well around him. Chris McKenzie McKenzie and Brent Stockman had a really good game. Then Bowmanville won back-to- back games with Stoufville by scores of 5-1 and 2-1 respectively. respectively. Michael Patrick was brought up from novice Toros and played very well despite a rough game. Chris Watson was brought up from the house league atoms and he too played well. In the second game Mike Maynard Maynard scored both of Toros' goals, despite outstanding goaltendingby the Stoufville goalie. Greg Koenderman was in net for both games. Greg Koenderman once again started the game against Lindsay and he snared the shut out with John Marco Cannito enroute to a 7-0 win. It was Jason Frayne from house league who was called up, and he totally enjoyed it, and played very well. Nicky Zdravkovski got a hat trick in this game. It was off to Omemee Tournament and the first game was an easy one for the boys with a 7-2 win over a Peterborough Church team. Jason Lange hit the net four times. The second game was the best game of the tournament, tournament, Bowmanville vs Port Hope A team. It was fast, good goaltending, good defence, defence, and good backcheck- ing and good forecheckjng. Chris Baumhauer, Mike Leipsig, Erik Griffin and Niki De Freitas were outstanding outstanding on defence along with John Marco's fantastic saves. Final score Toros 2 Port Hope 0. Langes struck first with Liberty Mutual Displays Great Team Effort in Recent Contest Liberty Mutual Novices played another great game on Saturday, / January 12, and came away with a 6-0 win over Young Drivers. Liberty Mutual was in top form from the opening face- off, and took the lead midway midway through the first period when Jason Greenham went into the comer and passed the puck out front to Derrick Welch, who made no mistake mistake and put it in the net. In the second period, Michael Michael Harper broke through the defence and scored, unassisted, unassisted, on a nice wrist shot. Wingers Brian Villa- mere, Ryan Davis, Matt Devera Devera and Derrick Welch did a great job along the boards, and passed the puck out in front for several good scoring scoring chances. Warden, Steve DcGrnnf and Michael Harper cleared the puck well; the forwards did some fine back-checking and goalie Ben Plowright made some great saves. With only one second left on the clock, centre Timmy Swan made the score 6-0, on a goal assisted by Steve De- Grnaf. Congratulations to Ben on his aluit-out, and to all the boys on another great team effort. Cathy Harper 987-5053 Wes Thompson getting an unassisted goal 30 seconds into the second period. Late in the second, Hooper's tied the score to set up an exciting exciting third period. Énd-to-end action kept everyone on their toes. Late in the third, with 2:30 remaining on the clock, Colin Galinski returned returned from his injury in fine fashion by setting up Steve Bonneau for the game winner. Luck was with us today but Hooper's gave us everything everything we could handle and our next game against them should be a sell-out. On Saturday evening we faced the CYO selects from Oshawa. We were missing three key players and recruited recruited Phil. Gushlak and Mike Ferguson from Checkers. Checkers. Both adjusted well to new linemates and our system, system, giving a good account of themselves. Bashful Bill Thrasher also showed up to lead the cheering section. This was also a hard hitting nail-biter and it's no wonder that both parents and kids were exhausted by Sunday evening. Langes scored early in the first period on an unassisted unassisted goal by Nick Katsikis. From then on it was time for Jeff Parry in our net and his counterpart for Oshawa to shine. They thwarted many opportunities in both ends until late in the third period when Christ Church scored to tic the game. Two tired teams skated off the ice and it was a just finish to an exciting exciting game. It was a good weekend. Wo are returning to form and playing .500 hockey against top-notch competition competition is a plus. Way to go team! Bad Weather for Family Trust Selects Win " B " Cu p FAMILY TRUST VS. HARMONY CHURCH On Saturday, January 12th, the Hollingsworth Family Trust team played an early morning game at the Bowmanville Arena against Harmony Church of the O.C.H.L. The bad weather had the Tigers playing playing with a short benen of only seven skaters. The Tigers Tigers tried hard to score but, after two periods, the score- board read 0-0. FAMILY TRUST The Tigers hit the ice again at 1:00 p.m. to play a league game against 401 Esso of the B.R.H.L. The Tigers then had to head to Newcastle to play a make-up game against Geranium Geranium Homes. The Tigers went into this game having scored only one goal in the last four games. The coaches coaches went over with the boys that they had to start working working as a team and this paid off as Chris Watson scored the first Tiger goal when he beat the Geranium defence to the loose puck then shooting shooting the puck over the goalie's goalie's shoulder and into the net. Late in the 1st period the Tigers got on the score- board again when Darren Crawford carried the puck down the boards before passing passing to an open Clayton Kohn who shot the puck past a surprised goalie. Early in the 2nd period the Tigers scored their 3rd goal when Mike let a shot go from the point that the goalie couldn't handle allowing David Hollingsworth Hollingsworth to knock in the loose puck. Once we got past the multitude of penalties and the smoke cleared, the Bell Girls had notched a 4-1 victory. Kelly Montgomeiw was sharp as she scored twice - once shorthanded. KEENE II - 3 The Bell team bussed their way to Keene for another another confrontation with these Keene girls who seem to always slip past our gals to steal a victory. The Bowmanville Midget Selects travelled east on the 401 on Sunday, January 13 to Prince Edward County. They displayed their skills in the annual Wellington Midget Tournament. They returned home Sunday night proudly carrying the 'B' cup after playing some of their best hockey of the season. season.
