• ; 4 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, Wednesday, October 9,1991 The Week in Review. Seeks Re-election to Sep. School Board Caroline Burke has announced announced her intention to seek re-election to the Peterborough, Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland Northumberland and Newcastle Roman Catholic Separate School Board. As a Catholic wife, mother and career woman, Caroline has served the Catholic community community of Newcastle as their representative on the school board for the past three years. Caroline has three children still in school. Paul is in his final year at the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Jason in grade 12 at St. Stephen's High School and Kristy in French Imcrsion at St. Stephen's Elementary School. Married to Bob, a computer consultant, Caroline is employed with the Ministry of Labour with responsibilities for the Durham Region. Caroline is presently chairperson chairperson of the Board's Salary Negotiations Committee and has served on the Management Committee, as well as numerous numerous Sub-Committees. Caroline cites workload as one of the most time-consuming parts of the responsibilities that one must assume when they are elected to serve as trustees. With meetings in Peterborough twice and often three times a week, the amount of time required required for meetings alone is very heavy. This, along with the necessity to prepare for the meetings, often leaves little time for other matters. Caroline cites the need for re-election. "Although we have been very fortunate in the past with the number of new schools we have, we have been plagued with one-term Trustees Trustees in the past that have not helped us maintain the necessary necessary pressure at the board table often needed to gain long term goals." As a home owner and taxpayer, taxpayer, Caroline is extremely conscious of the burden taxes places upon each one of us. "Trying to maintain a balance between quality education and reasonable cost is probably one of the most important issues we must deal with almost on a daily basis. While I am extremely extremely proud of the salary settlements settlements we have been able to achieve with all our employees, employees, we must constantly strive to maximize the value we receive receive for our dollar. Keeping cost down is often very difficult difficult when we are experiencing the rapid growth we have seen over the past three years in Newcastle. This is one of my major concerns." Over the past three years, as your Trustee, I have worked very hard to make our schools the best we can and I believe that with your cooperation and support we can continue towards towards this goal. I seek and ask for your support and please if you have any concerns or questions questions don't hesitate to call me at home (623-5736).
