«n By Brad Kelly Tips For Our Correspondents The changing of the leaves has little bearing as a reminder that fall has arrived for us. We are reminded reminded of the season each Monday morning as the mail is passed out, with much of it finding its way to the sports desk. Santa Claus would be envious to get the stack of mail we do. It's the fall season. It's a time when our correspondents correspondents sharpen their literary skills to keep our readers informed of the winter sports scene in the town. Hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, swimming and figure skating reports filter across the desk each week. With the new season upon us, we are going to put a little bit of the experience we have gained over the past couple of years to good use. We will be sifting through each submission this year, in an attempt attempt to try and reduce the size of some of them. It's nothing personal towards each writer. But, we received 19 reports this week, and it's only October. That number will increase as the season progresses. progresses. So, to try and get them all in -- which some weeks is an impossibility - we are going to have to do some editing to each one. So, be warned. To help our correspondents along the way, we have compiled some helpful hints for the upcoming season. LENGTH -- It's best to stick to the facts. It isn't necessary to give a detailed description of each game or tournament your team enters. A short, concise, overview is best. And, the shorter it is, the better the chances it has of making it to print. If everybody tries to reduce the length of their articles, we would have more space for others to appear. appear. LACK OF SPACE We do our best to see that each article makes it to print for the week it is intended intended for. But, on occasion, it just isn't possible. If your article happens to be one of the ones that doesn't make it to print, don't despair. It has nothing nothing to do with your writing ability. In most cases, articles that don't make it to print one week, are given preferentially treatment for the next edition. HEADLINES -- Headings are made to fit a certain certain space. It's impossible to always get the headline headline our writers suggest into the paper. However, we will do our best to include the name of the sponsor sponsor in each headline. Occasionally, however, that's not possible. ' .., . . , , NAMES -- Always make a conscientious effort to make sure that the names of the players are legible, legible, and spelled correctly. Don't take for granted the spelling of any name. We've learned all about this through experience. Making certain that names are spelled correctly and written legibly, takes away a lot of the guesswork for us. PICTURES -- If you have a picture of your team that has some significance, by all means bring it down to our offices and we will try and include it with your article. Make sure to identify each person in the picture. We won't publish a photo unless names are attached. And, keep in mind, that with the increasing number of teams and variety of sports in the town, we must generally limit photos to one team photo during the course of the season. We just don't have the space to run four or five photos photos of the same team. If, for any reason a problem arises, don't hesitate to give us a call. We'd be glad to help, or give an explanation explanation if one is required. CHOOS THEBES IN HOME COMFORT Final Race Of Season For Terry The last race of the year finally finally arrived.
