Realizing his team wasn't seasoned enough to beat Campbellford, his goal for the game wasn't to come away with another win. "We played them in a tournament on the weekend and lost by 20, so today's goal was to keep it to within 15," he said of the team's objective objective from the outset. "In our last league game, we're hoping to stay with 10. "Maybe we'll surprise them in the playoffs." It was a realistic game plan for Clarke to follow, considering that Campbell- VCR CLINIC Saturday, Oct. 26th - mo «. m . to mo P . m . flaw year VCR cleaned, checked and lubricated by factory-trained technicians "while-yoa-wait"! The calibre of competition Campbellford has faced over the past couple of seasons, and the experience they have gained, was evident. They played a very patient game offensively, and. their shot selection was always of a high percentage. Their offence offence is centered around Lce- Anne Isaac, who appears to be destined to play university basketball in Canada. On defence, they threw a lot of different looks and combinations at the Clarke offence. It helped to throw them off balance, forcing many of Clarke's shots to come from outside. Clarke didn't hesitate to put the ball up from the outside, outside, and with a higher shooting shooting percentage, could have made the game interesting. Janice Rickard was the offensive offensive leader for Clarke, with 13 points. Alisha White chipped in with eight, while Megan Davies and Judy DeVries each had two. Campbellford showed their dominance early, and opened up a 13-4 lead by the end of the first quarter. Clarke came back with a strong second quarter to close the gap to 17-10. But, that's as close as Campbellford would allow them. Campbellford stretched their lead to 27-14 by the end of the third quarter. Overall, the season has been a pleasant surprise for Matsusaki, whose team seems to be able to rise to the occasion when facing higher calibre teams. "All our losses (Clarke is 5-4 overall) this year have been to 'A' schools. We've been able to handle 'AA' schools," he said. "We've been able to beat the bigger schools. It seems that this year the strength in girls' basketball basketball is in the smaller schools." The day wasn't an entire loss for Clarke. The junior team came up with a gritty performance in downing Campbellford 29-21 for their first win in four tries on the season. It was the first time in three years that Clarke was able to gain a victory over Campbellford.
