So, when distinguished guest, David Crone, spoke last Thursday at the weekly Rotary Club meeting, his plans were encouraged by the entire club. David Crone is vice- president and co-owner of Powerscrcen-Roycr, a national manufacturer of conveyors and screening plants. He and his partner purchased the one-time Belfast-based company in 1979. And now, with Mr. Crone at the helm, Power- screen is putting together large-scale composting plants. The plants arc specifically designed to compost sewage into a useful soil. It may not be a pretty prospect, prospect, but somebody ought to do it. And Mr. Crone and company company don't mind. But, lately he could do with a little encouragement. Having not so long ago overcome considerable obstacles obstacles that came with settling his new Canadian venture in Bowmanville, Bowmanville, Mr. Crone is now finding progress further hampered hampered by slow-moving, provincial provincial soil standard regulations, which seem in direct contrast to those he is familiar with in the United States. To put the stricter Canadian standards in perspective, Mr. Crone stated: "According to the provincial government, all the soil in Holland Marsh won't meet current standards. According to them, all the food you cat from there is grown in contaminated soil, and this is just not the case." Mr. Crone says that stringent stringent standards prohibit any soil resulting from composted sewage sewage sludge and yard waste from being promoted for agricultural agricultural use by the Ontario government. "Of course, you need to test before hand," Mr. Crone con cedes. But he also claims his company is only managing a process that nature invented. "All we do is control the process," process," he says. Anyway, the Americans arc happy to benefit from the Pow- crscrccn-Roycr technology. Mr. Crone showed slides of an Enclosed Dynamic Composting Composting System his company sold and built for Lexington, Kentucky, a town about the size and manville, population of Bow- The large-scale composting composting system transforms sewage sewage sludge and other organic yard waste into a soil suitable for agricultural use. The fully computerized process requires the help of only two full-time employees. Huge conveyors carry the waste foundation through the self-enclosed plant. There arc four channels, each three me ters wide, that run the length of the building. The composting cycle runs the course of the building and last 21 days. "There is no odor," Mr. Crone assured his audience. "A properly maintained composting composting system has no odor." Mr. Crone says the key to excellence in composting, is proper maintenance of temperature, temperature, aeration, moisture and movement. David Crone, vice-president of Powerscreen-Royer of Canada Ltd., is presented presented with a gift from Ken Hockin, the president of the Bowmanville Rotary Club. Mr. Crone was the guest speaker at the club's meeting on October 31, at the Hying Hying Dutchman Hotel. FABMCLAND INVENTORY THOUSANDS OF METRES MUST BE CLEARED!! BLOW-OUT!!
