Jones Ladies of our UCW met in the C.E. in the church Wednesday, Wednesday, November 13 with Jean Slcmon presiding. She welcomed welcomed the ladies and read "God's Plans" followed by prayer. She asked Blanche Jones to fill in for Elsie Roy to read the secretary's report - and had it approved. Betty Pascoe stated she would need help Friday night following the card party - to help move tables and set up for thcr Annual Craft Sale November November 30. She has had a fine response response for reserving tables. Treasurer Carol Southwell gave her report. Jackie Vaneyk answered for Stewardship by asking about sending stamps - apparently some are not wanted - the Queen,, flag and parliament buildings. Doreen Park and Arlene Arlene Rowan made the motion and 2nd it - not to send them. Jean S. stated she still looks after "21 Upper Room" books. Three ladies Jackie V. attended attended the Oshawa church Presbyterial meeting October 9th at Ncwtonville and Jean S. and Marg K. were there in the. afternoon. Jean related that Reverend McCurdy introduced the guest speaker who spoke to 94 ladies and gave a few highlights of the meeting. Marg remarked on the two large wall hangings that had been crocheted - one of the Lord's Prayer and the other - 23rd Psalm. Then she mentioned Jean taking a back way home to show her the Brookdale Tree Land where Lloyd works. Jackie's morning session dealt with different religions - Jewish and Muslem. Their Sabbath being Friday night to Saturday night and how the Jewish ladies who have lived here much longer were able to keep their faith and yet get around it. Jackie had a video to show us but stated it wasn't what she had wanted entitled "Solidarity with Women" more political than expected, but to get us in the mood, she had us write down 11 ladies names who had done a great deal to making our lives much better, starting with the outspoken Nellie McClung, who succeeded in a court case for women, Others who were elected to Federal Parliament, columnist, University University and a minister, Lt. Governor, Governor, an author, a mayor in 50's and the Governor General. So many issues were dealt with and there are more to come. These ladies overcame great obstacles but one thing for sure we stand together as People. Jean thanked the ladies for he program and we enjoyed our cup of tea and lunch. Fall Regional Meeting which was held at St. Mark's United in Whitby on October 29th. Ncwtonville United hosted the day meeting on October 30th with 94 ladies present. How docs your faith impact impact on your daily living such as food, entertainment, leisure, humour? 4. How does your faith perceive perceive the role of woman? A wealth of information was provided by each woman in response to these questions and we discovered some similarities similarities between the Jewish and Islamic faiths. For instance, neither one eats pork. Each of these faiths requires a very strong self-discipline to abide by the many laws. It became quite evident that their faith has a great impact on their culture, culture, and life-style. The number number of questions asked by the U.C.W. members was indicative indicative of the interest stimulated by our guests.
