Park Toastmasters Engage in Lively Talk At Meeting By Frank'Lawson On November 19th, Bowmanville Bowmanville Toastmasters (TM) held a lively meeting chaired by Marilynn Dow. The ever fiesty Joe Christl provided a continual challenge to the chair during the business portion of the meeting. He brought up numerous numerous points of order and information information so as to question the conduct of the meeting. He was making sure the chair did not sway from 'Roberts Rules of Order' on how to conduct a meeting. However, TM Dow did not give any ground and maintained firm control of the meeting even though TM Christl may have given himself a wee bit of latitude with the rules. This exchange provided every TM a tremendous opportunity opportunity to observe both how to challenge in a friendly manner and how to handle a well orchestrated orchestrated challenge from the floor. Thanks to both for a job well done, The table topics contest was awarded to Lome Allen a new TM who also made his 'ICEBREAKER' 'ICEBREAKER' speech. This is typically the first speech a new TM gives. In it a TM introduces introduces himself to the club. This is an easy way to get going as it is a topic we're all familiar with, He did an excellent job but the competition from experienced experienced TMs was a little too strong for him to win the best speaker award. The best speaker award went to TM Christl for a speech on sales and service as a way of conducting business. TM Christl is a very experienced experienced TM and a founding member of the Bowmanville club. Best evaluator went to TM Marg Kropf who reviewed a speech by TM Gord West. Finally, Finally, the spark plug was won by TM Nancy Barnes for her positive contribution to the business meeting. The Grammarians word for the week was 'synthesize'. To make whole by pulling together together diverse parts. Try to use the word of the week today. The year is approaching its end with only two regular TM meetings left, December 3rd, and 10th. Once again please synthesize those budding desires desires and join us before the year is out at St, John's Church, Temperance and Queen, at 7:30, all are welcome. welcome.
