In a previous issue of the Toastmaster magazine, past president Helen Blanchard stressed the importance of a winning attitude. She observed that Michelangelo, one of the greatest artists of all time, planned most of his sculpture to be placed against a wall where it would be viewed from one side. As he worked on the fine details on the back of one of his masterpieces, he ■ was asked why he was putting forth so much effort where no one would ever see it. He replied, "I will know." Lord Chesterfield, Chesterfield, English statesman and writer, was the author of the phrase, "Whatever is worth doing doing at all is worth doing well." Helen Blanchard goes on to say that when we offer a halfhearted halfhearted effort we often excuse ourselves by saying we don't care about the work. The truth is, however, it is ourselves, our pride we don't care about. No matter what the job is, we owe it to ourselves to do it in such a way that we walk away with pride and satisfaction others can sec...Toastmasters founder, Dr. Ralph Smcdlcy, expressed it this way: "Reach for what is out of reach. Attempt the impossible. impossible. Strive to attain the unattainable. There is no chai-, lenge in things within reach." Helen Blanchard completes her observations by urging us to "build that castle in the air. Believe Believe you can do, Want to do it and Act: stretch yourself to reach your goal. Commit To Excellence." Do you wish to demonstrate a winning attitude through the enhancement of your communications communications skills, thereby shining shining forth cfflucntly?
