Variety Concert A capacity crowd filled the main hall of Orono United Church Saturday evening May 9, for the very enjoyable "Variety Concert." Co-sponsored by the "Quinte-Can Committee and church choir. Congratulations to Carol Hooper who co-ordinated the program. program. Donald Staples was the capable M.C. for evening program. Before and during the opening, the "house band", of "Mcllotones" rendered rendered excellent music, comprising Martha Farrow on piano, Doreen Lowery on drums; Carlos Tamblyn on Comet, Carman White and James Lowery on Saxophones. "Blue Angels" in Alabama Jubilee", Jubilee", a ladies group from "Wilmot Creek." Carol Hooper - solos from "Les Miserable" accompanied by Ian Van- derschee. Heather Lodge Birthday Party On Tuesday Heather Rebekah Lodge celebrated our 45th Birthday Party with a delicious supper. Sister Rena Pears and Brother Len Pears,' Sister Gladys Brown and sister Lave- rine Barraball and husband Sid all from Peterborough, Brother Steve Graham Noble Grand of the subordinate subordinate Lodge and his wife Sister Marjorie Marjorie Palmer, District Deputy President Sister Leona Farrow from Bowmanville, Bowmanville, Brother Harry and sister Mabel Wade from Newcastle. Toasts were made to the Grand Lodge, to the Rebekah Assembly and to Heather Rebekah Lodge and responded responded to by members of the Order. Gifts were presented to Brother Milton and Sister Norma Cornish and to Sister Glad Brown who are 45 year members by sister Carol Boyd they were not able to stay for the meeting. Lodge opened according to the Ritual Ritual with Sister Ruth Andrews Noble Grand presiding assisted by Vice Grand Sister Connie Hooey. Sister Ruth welcomed all members and a special welcome was given to the visiting visiting Brothers and Sisters. Sister Marjorie Palmer District Deputy President of District #8 Oshawa East was escorted and welcomed welcomed by Sister Betty Major and a special welcome was given to Sister Jean Youngman. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved and signed by the Noble Grand Sister Connie reported reported for the writing Committee, she had sent out 14 Get Well cards 7 Sympathy Sympathy cards, 1 Thinking of You card, 2 Baby congratulations cards and one flower arrangement. There were 25 Past Noble Grands present and Sisters Nancy Norman from Ganaraska Lodge Port Hope is our New District Deputy President. Sisters Joyce and Darlene arc our representative and scholar to attend the Rebekah Assembly in June at Royal York in Toronto. Sister Bertha Bertha White mentioned the tickets for the Doll House arc available and the draw to be held in June. Under Good and Welfare, Birthday greetings were extended to Sisters Marion Adams, Ruth Andrews, and Alice Hooey. Our D.D.P. Sister Marjorie spoke briefly and read a very interesting poem and congratulated us on getting new members. Sister Olive Millson spoke for our 45 year members and the Two Chartered Chartered members and read two Poems on Friendship. Our Two chartered members arc Sister Hattie Wilson and Brother Gordon Gordon Watson who were presented with gifts from the Lodge, also all 45 year members'were presented with gifts by the Noble Grand and Vice Grand. After closing Lodge a delicious lunch and Birthday cake were served and a friendly time had by all. Unit News Seventeen ladies in attendance at the monthly U.C.W. meeting of unit #3, held on Tuesday May 5, at the home of Mrs. Joan Hodge, Taunton Rd. Joan and Margaret Gunter welcomed welcomed everyone and opened meeting with an interesting video of the Ecumenical Ecumenical Church service held, recently in Ajax-Pickcring United Church. This of course was the area in which Margaret was raised and a picture of her old home was seen on tape. Several Church choirs and members members of different denominations taking part, brought a message of Christian unity. Isabelle read a humorous poem of "Grandparents" awaiting grand children's children's pending visit. Many announcements of upcoming events. Banquet Friday night at Arena and food supplies needed! General U.C.W. meeting May 28, at 7:30 p.m. with Mrs. Bragg as our guest speaker. (Pictures and talk on recent recent trip to China). Men arc invited to this meeting as a very interesting talk on agriculture, etc. U.C.W., Sunday May 31, at 11 a.m. Church service with Mrs. Pat Beach, guest speaker. She is President of Bay of Quinte U.C.W. June 11, 6:30 p.m. our 30th birthday birthday party, with all ladies of community community invited. Special salad supper, and guests from near and far.
