10 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Wednesday, May 13,1992 Section Two Mother's Day Visitors in Hampton Happenings in Hampton by Michelle Balson 263-2240 I trust all the mothers and grandmothers grandmothers out there enjoyed their Mother's Day on Sunday. What a gloriously wonderful day it was. Could it be that summer has arrived? arrived? The trees are still not in full bloom yet. But why think about it,, just enjoy it! The Ministry of Education deemed May 4 to May 8 as Education Education Week. The schools in our areas participated eagerly. Hampton Junior Junior Public School gave a delightful concert entitled "The Canada Goose." The focus of this was Canadian Canadian unity. The acting performances were excellent. The songs were catchy. I found myself singing along with them. At the end, everyone stood and sang our national anthem. That is one song I wish we heard more of! The M.J. Hobbs choir was busy this past week On Tuesday the choir attended the choir fest. It was a noncompetitive noncompetitive festival for all the schools. Late that evening the choir, band and jazz band performed for parents and students in the M.J. Hobbs gymnasium. A number of parents accepted the invitation to see the students in their classroom on Wednesday evening and Thursday Thursday morning., A large number of grade eight students will be on the "Ottawa Trip" this week. Having helped supervise supervise this trip a few years back, I know everyone will enjoy this learning learning experience. There were ear-to-car smiles on the faces of parents, grandparents and godparents this past Sunday. Four children were welcomed into the fellowship. Kirk Thomas Bradley, Bradley, the son of Russell and Kathryn (Grace) Bradley and Bradley David Jones, the son of Jeffcrey and Barbara Barbara (Naef) Jones were welcomed. So was Victoria Elizabeth Clemens, Happenings in Newcastle From Page 7 slides, of which Mr. Ken Stephenson has printed on-third and copies may be sold. Mr. Ron Locke .introduced guest speaker, Alan Skeoch, who teaches History at Parkdale Collegiate Institute, Institute, is an author and broadcaster. His topic dealt with Home Children and many of his slides showed children similar to those in Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist days -- street urchins whose parents had died or were in work houses. From the streets of London London thousands of children were sent by Dr. Bamardo and other Homes, to farms in Canada, where circumstances were vastly different. Many of the attendants knew Home Children and some were actual Home Boys who told of their experiences. experiences. Memorabilia brought to the meeting added to the most interesting program. Lunch and a social time followed. 'The Community Hall Board The Board held their regular monthly meeting on April 20, and had special meetings on April 28 and May 5. On Monday, the eleventh, they met with Town officials in Bowmanville to discuss the budget. The new gas stove has been installed installed in the basement kitchen and is now in working order. The cost of new screens, the restoration or replacement replacement of the flag pole, and curtains curtains for the great Hall are being investigated. investigated.
