Bruce Simpson won the midget pole vault, Greg Adams won the junior pole vault, Mike White of Clarke won the midget javelin throw, and Lloyd Clifton came second in the long and triple jump. Many spectators were amazed to see members of the Bowmanville Lions Club carrying a flaming torch through town in Olympic style. They were passing it along on its way from Ottawa to Oshawa's Centennial celebrations and Folk Festival. Those who took part were: Bob Lawton, Lars Carlson, President Bob Williams, Laurence Goddard, A1 Cuthbertson, Eric Barr and Jack Munday. 20 YEARS AGO -- At Richmond Hill Lawn Bowling Club, the Savage Trophy was won by the Bowmanville Mixed Trebles team of Mervyn Brock (skip), Norman Brock and Clarence Oke. 10 YEARS AGO -- Despite the efforts of Bowmanville Merchants' Mike Cornell, Murray O'Brien and John Stainton, the Western All-Stars were unable to contain the East in the annual EOBA all-star game in Port Hope.
