Florida Baseball Player Hopes Things Turn Out for the Be ter Dear Brad It's good to be back in Florida, but I feel lost because I am not playing baseball. I decided to write you this letter to inform you that I had a chance to talk to the coach. Ed Davis cited a couple of reasons I did not make his ball club at St. Petersburg Petersburg Junior College. The main reason reason was because I did not hit well. His stats show me hitting .250 for the fall, which ranks me eighteenth out of 45 players. The scholarship second base- man hit .203. I was 17 for 68 with 11 runs scored and 15 walks. The coach also said that I had a weak arm and attributes my shoulder problem to that. He feels I was playing hurt. Those are his only negative comments. He went on to say that I have, a good head, a good attitude and great speed. Coach Davis also said it was not time to pack it in. He said that I could play at any NCÀA Division II school. The coach feels that I just have to go elsewhere and prove myself. myself. ", I am also happy to say that he is ■giving me a good recommendation. i The team is. young, consisting of 15 freshman and seven sophomores, four of which are pitchers. I don't know what else to say, other other than I feel like I let my family, friends and all the supporters down. I feel very bad because, most of all, I let myself down. I'm sorry, but I'll learn from my mistakes, pick myself back up again and carry on. It's not the end, just a roadblock. I must admit that visiting Bowman- villc was the, best thing I could have done this past month. I enjoyed my one week visit. I was very excited to have been able to see Dan Nimigon at Humber College, Becky Moynes at Queen's University, Craig Ncmis, Don Smialek, Jason Walsh, Geoff Smith, Jason Nolbing, Paul Rulhard and Tara Cookson at U of T. 1 would like to say that we will all deeply miss Mr. Dale Gallant as he was responsible for bringing back-to- back Ontario Baseball Championships to Bowmanville. I send my deepest regrets regrets to the Gallant family. Brad, things down here seem really tough right now, but I know that everything will work out for the best. Believe it or not, I have joined a hockey league. We will play an 18 game season starting next week. Hockey in Florida? I will write again soon because I will be attending tryouts with the St. Louis Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies. The Blue Jays arc not offering any open or walk-on tryouts. I hope to return to Bowmanville this summer to play for the juniors. I am very anxious to bring a title to Bowmanville. Yours Truly Brendan P.
