On Friday, February 12, Newcastle handed McIntosh Chrysler an 8-2 defeat. Newcastle travelled to Oshawa for a game against McIntosh Chrysler on Friday evening at Harmon Park Arena and trounced Chrysler to the tune of 8-2 behind the solid goaltending of David Skan and a five-goal outburst from Bill Perry. Tony Jones scored two goals, with Bob Stiles adding one goal to complete the scoring. On Sunday, February 14, Newcastle Newcastle hosted the D&B Hawks in Newcastle Newcastle and squeaked out a 9-7 victory. This was a goaltender battle between Leo Kelly and. In the first game of the series, the girls came home with a .10-0 upset over Colbome. Gina King led Newcastle Newcastle with six goals and two assists. Terry scored 24 goals and collected 33 assists. Runner-up Bill Crossey totalled 43. Best scoring average was compiled by "Archie" Crossey with 34 points in eight games. The Zone J Youth Bowling Championships for singles and doubles started. In the bantam girls' section, representing Liberty Bowl, are Star Morris (singles), Heather Brunt and Debbie Bromeil (doubles), Penny Almond, Kim Masters, Debbie Dadson, Marcie Edmondson, Karen Piper (team). 20 YEARS AGO -- McNulty Sports, by virtue of a better goals scored total on the year, ended up in first place in Town League Hockey. McNulty's defeated County Chrysler 8-4 on goals by Randy Rogers (2), Steve Bums (2), Grant Flintoff, Woody Lee, Bruce Meadows. 10 YEARS AGO - Newcastle Public School took top honours, defeating defeating Kirby, to win the Kinsmen Jr. Boys' Volleyball Tournament.
