Concern About Violence on Television The federal government has announced announced positive steps to reduce violence'on violence'on TV. However, it requires a "voluntary" restraint code to be adopted by the television industry to reduce violence. The Association of Canadian Advertisers is crying foul over undue influence, government censorship and the supposed loss of independence over programming and editorial decisions. We are against "voluntary" restraints restraints as history has proven such a course of action docs not work. We urge you to write without delay to your federal MP's to protest so called voluntary controls by the television industry. Congratulate your federal MP's and the government for the positive steps taken to date. Give them constructive criticism on how to implement a solid law that cannot be ignored. Such legislation must give the Canadian Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Telecommunications Commission more leverage in applying consistent standards of violence violence content for programming. What can you do? Join in the Virginie Virginie Larivic're letter writing campaign campaign and encourage friends, family, churches, schools, businesses, etc. all across Canada to do the same. An anti-violence law must be passed within the next few months. Write regarding Violence on T.V. to: Rt. Hon. Brian Mulroney, Prime Minister of Canada Rt. Hon. Perrin Beatty, MP, Minister Minister of Communications Mr. A1 Johnson, MP, Chairman, Conservative Caucus on the Family Ms. Sheila Finestone, MP, Vice- Chair, Standing Committee on Communications and Culture.
