Wilma and John were in Stratford on Friday, May 7th, for graduation exercises when daughter-in-law Sophie Scott received her nursing diploma. On Monday, May 10 the Scotts flew to Wolfvillc, Nova Scotia, where grandson grandson Jason Edward, son of Susi and Jim, graduated from Acadia University University with a Bachelor of Physical Education Education degree. Graduation exercises were Thursday, May 13, after which they visited the Jim Scotts at Yarmouth Yarmouth and returned to Newcastle on Sunday. We welcome home Jeff Walters, son of Randy and Karen. Jeff spent the year at University of Nantes, France. Wednesday, May 19, the Orono and District Fiddle Club entertain at the Newcastle Community Hall. On Thursday evening, May 20th the Newcastle Senior citizens enjoy their regular evening of cards in the Newcastle Newcastle Community Hall. We are saddened to report the passing of Vanessa Jenkins at Sunny- brook Hospital on Sunday, May 16. Vanessa was a local mail carrier who was injured in a car accident at the comer of road 42 and Concession a few months ago. On Sunday the Guardian staff went out to celebrate (at the Pizza Hut) the change-over to Maxi Dmgs. Some villagers enjoyed Sunday's Bowmanville Lions Club car rally. The weather was co-operative for this event. The Newcastle Optimist Club will have a fund-raiser on Saturday, May 22, selling hot-dogs at the IGA. Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Rickard and Mr. and Mrs. Terry Graham spent the weekend in Kitchener at the Lions Convention. Mr. Ronald Powell is a patient in Oshawa General Hospital. On Sunday to celebrate their father's father's retirement, the children of Roy and Elma Hopkins took them out to dinner at Kreb's, Whitby. Newcastle Lions News On May 12th 27 Lions and two guests congregated in the Lions Den at the Newcastle Community Hall for their regular meeting. Catering the roast pork dinner was the Newcastle Lioness club. 2nd Vice, Lion Amos Langley acted acted as Chairman due to the absence of President Mike Carter.
