I The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Wednesday, June 16,1993 Section Two New Perspective on Life by Clarke High School Drama Students A Weekly Report from the Village of Newcastle Editors: Jack and Hazel Crago - 987-4201 On Sunday morning at 7:10 the Cragos had eaten their breakfast and were busy getting ready for the Crago Crago family picnic at Lowville. The power went off! We were sorry to awaken our good neighbours around the comer and they had electricity. A call to our Newcastle Hydro brought workers who installed a new meter, for no one else had complained complained about hydro loss. While the men were working, another neighbour neighbour appeared. You know, we complain about our bills but we are certainly thankful for the prompt service! On Sunday, June 13, a surprise luncheon was held in Nepean at the New Logo Designed For Newcastle Hydro For Name Change Newcastle Hydro has approved a new logo in anticipation of its scheduled scheduled name change on July 1st. At that time, the Newcastle utility is expected to adopt the name "Clar- ington Hydro-Electric" to coincide with the official name change across the entire Town. The move to change the Town's name came about following a November November '92 referendum, after which a special special committee settled on the name Clarington, an amalgamation of the former township names of Clarke and Darlington. The name is yet to be passed through the provincial legislature. legislature. Newcastle Hydro's new logo design design was submitted by Peter Hockslra of Graphic Lettering Services in Newcastle. Newcastle. Mr. Hockstra is the same artist who created the current logo, which incorporates a lightning bolt. His new version is an adaptation of that design and will eventually replace the original original on customer invoices, trucks, equipment and business cards. The up-dated design features a Large C from Clarington overlapping an H from Hydro both supermposed over the familir lightning symbol. The colors will remain orange and red. Dave Clarke, manager of the Hydro Hydro commission, says changing the name of the utility should not add any cost to printing of billing stock. Expenses are more likely to arise from changing exterior signage on the building and applying new decals on the existing fleet of vehicles. However, original logos may stay in place on utility trucks until new trucks are purchased. In total the commission estimates that $10,000 will be sufficient to cover cover all aspects relating to changing the name. Newcastle Hydro-Electric is taking the switch to" Clarington" in stride. "It's the wish of taxpayers," said Mr. Clarke, "We will follow along with the municipal Council on this." Van Belle Floral Shoppes ... much more than a flower store I 4 STORES M .
