SHOW AND SHINE - The Bowmanville Optimists will be hosting their annual classic car show this Sunday, August 8th. It takes place at the Enniskillen Enniskillen Conservation Area between the hours of 10 a.m. and four p.m. KITE FLYING OPPORTUNITY AT ARTS CENTRE - Things will be flying high this Saturday, August 7, at the Visual Arts Centre in Bowmanville. Bowmanville. Skye Morrison, a professor of craft and design history and textiles at Sheridan College, will be conducting a kite-flying workshop in the morning, morning, from 10 a.m. to noon. The workshop is for teachers, group leaders and anyone else who wants to enhance their recreational programs by learning techniques of kite-building. The remainder of the day will be open to all ages to construct and fly kites on the premises. Everyone is welcome. For more details on how you can become a volunteer for this program, contact Beth Lettner, of the Heart and Stroke Foundation at 579-1212. •••••••••••• BENEFIT FEATURES CONCERT PIANIST -- A concert will be held on Thursday, August 19, at Bowmanville's Rehoboth Church in order to raise funds for establishing a chaplaincy at Memorial Hospital. The 7:30 p.m. concert will be free, but a collection to help fund the chaplaincy will be taken. The pianist is Christine Alison Wallner, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Allan Langley, of Bowmanville. Christine Wallner, who lives in Austria, is currently visiting her parents. She studied at the Royal School of Music in London, England, and has performed in Jamaica, England, and Austria. FLUTE CHOIR PLAYS - The Clarington Flute Choir will perform an evening program entitled "Flute Frivolities", on Tuesday, August 17, in the Arts Resource Centre of Oshawa. The concert begins at eight p.m. and admission admission is free. The music will consist of recreational ensemble pieces for piccolo, flutes, alto flute, and bass flute. There will also be selections by the Durham flute teachers' quartet. BUCKHORN WILDLIFE ART FESTIVAL - The Buckhom Wildlife Art Festival, an annual exhibit and sale of fine art with a theme of wildlife, nature-related or native art, takes place this month.
