The month-long promotion, which offers consumers across Ontario substantial substantial discounts on more than 25 energy-saving products, is a combined combined effort between Ontario Hydro and 13 major retailers. "Our aim is to increase the awareness awareness and use of energy-saving products products and techniques," says Elysc Allan, Allan, Director of Energy Services for Ontario Hydro. "October is chosen as Power Saver* month so that consu mers can consciously evaluate their energy-savings efforts as we approach approach the peak power demands of the winter season." Power Saver* items available during during the campaign range from items such as energy-efficient light bulbs, water-saving shower heads and faucet faucet aerators, to bigger items likes insulation insulation and appliances. "Consumers will be able to pick up feature priced, energy-wise products products and tips whenever they see the bright red and yellow Power Saver* logo at participating retailers across the province," says Allan. "Retailers understand how consumers eagerly anticipate purchasing these products and they realize the importance of helping consumers help themselves." Retailers participating in the campaign campaign include: Aikcnhead's Home Improvement Warehouse; Beaver Lumber; Canadian Tire; Home Hardware; Hardware; Pro Hardware/Do it Centres; Cashway Lumber; Lansing Build- All; K-Mart; TSC Stores; United Coop; Coop; Scars; The Lumber Guys and Homccarc. Allan says the campaign is expected expected to save Ontario's 3.5 million residential residential electricity consumers some 70 million kilowatt hours, or about $5.25 million dollars in hydro bills, $500,000 more than last year's campaign. campaign. . . ,. "The expected savings in this year's kilowatt hours will come partly partly from the efficiency of the products offered through the promotion and the continued efforts of consumers, who have responded with increased participation over the past few years," says Allan. Allan says that awareness of energy energy conservation at home, combined with an increased use of energy- savings products, arc key elements in Ontario Hydro's residential energy management strategy to encourage the most efficient use of electricity. "Energy-efficient products and technology help consumers gain control control over their energy bills with minimal minimal affect on their lifestyles," says Allan.
