22 The Independent, Canadian Statesman Weekender, Bowmanville, Saturday, November 6,1993 Girl Guides Introduce New Mint Cookies as Christmas Treat Girl Guides is introducing the 90's taste of adventure - Chocolatey Mint Girl Guide cookies. This unique cookie marks a new chapter in the 54-year-long phenomenal history of the Girl Guide cookies. Beginning November 2, the new Chocolatey Mint sensation took its place in cookie cookie jars everywhere, alongside the now legendary chocolate and vanilla Girl Guide cookies. This year, the Chocolatey Chocolatey Mint cookie will be sold only in Ontario. Cookie connoisseurs can now look forward to two annual cookie drives. The new cookie will be sold exclusively in the fall while sales of the traditional chocolate and vanilla cookies will continue in the spring. In Ontario, more than 2,952,000 boxes of cookies were sold, a provincial average of 6 cookies cookies per person. For Christie Brown and Co., makers makers of Girl Guide cookies since 1961, the creation of a new cookie presented presented an interesting challenge. "Girl Guide cookies are an institution in Canada and we are very proud of that. With our new cookie, we were looking for a flavour that would give consumers a taste of the Girl Guide adventure in the 90's. We wanted this new cookie to be completely unique to Girl Guides, one that was not commonly commonly available on grocery store shelves," said Maureen Lawrence, Provincial Commissioner,' Girl Guides of Canada, Ontario Council." After much cookie tasting, we found our Chocolatey Mint cookie and we're confident that it won't let our thousands of Girl Guide cookie lovers lovers down." Selling Girl Guide cookies in Ontario Ontario is a tradition that dates back to 1929 when mothers and daughters joined forces to bake 9,000 boxes of cookies in an effort to raise funds for a new roof at Bonita Glen Girl Guide camp which still exists in Hawk- stone, Ontario. Today, the Girl Guide cookie remains the largest source of funding of programs for the 120,000 MARK YOUR CALENDAR! CHRISTMAS Country Collectables & Craft Sale| NOV. 13 & 14, 1993 R.H. Within every woman there is a powerful force, filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing - Wild Woman, an endangered species. The gifts of wildish nature come to us at birth, but society 'civilizes' us into rigid roles, muffling the deep life-giving messages of our own souls. We become fearful, uncreative and trapped. Telling stories as a way of teaching, entertaining and healing is a universal and ancient art-form. Dr. Estes heals by her writing. The reader is healed in the reading, as she awakens memories of long suppressed ways of being.
