On Sunday morning Cecil and Marie Gibson attended the baptism of Mary Kate Cecilia, daughter of Eleanor Eleanor and Wayne MacDonald at St. Mark's United Church, Whitby. Fol : lowing church, members of both the Gibson and MacDonald families gathered at the home of Eleanor and Wayne and son Gareth in Whitby in honor of Mary Kate's baptism. A happy family gathering. A group of ladies all bom the same year (?) annually enjoy a holi day bash. Attending from this area were Abby and Carla McLaughlin, Meghan Kyte, Colin Mann and Stephanie and Casey Shor- tridge. They report an excellent day of activities, song and fellowship. On Saturday evening a large crowd of friends and relatives gathered gathered at the Nestlcton Hall to hold a surprise Jack and Jill in honor of Community Liaison Group Working on Best Method to Remove Port Granby Waste By John Veldhuis The Clarington Community Liaison Liaison Group is now hard at work selecting selecting the preferred method of removing removing the low level radioactive wastes from the Port Granby dump site. To achieve this, a subcommittee from the Clarington Community Liaison Liaison Group was set up consisting of Mr. William Clarke, Mr. Eric Jclinski and Mr. John Stephenson. This group has examined two documents RAP 1 and--RAP 2 which describe most of the known methods of deal-, ing with the volume of mixed wastes at Port Granby. Because of the complexity complexity of the wastes and the method of dealing with these wastes and methods of remediation a consultant was assigned to the group by the Siting Siting Task Force Secretariat.- He.is Mr. David DuBois from Colder Associates Associates Ltd. Mr. DuBois will be working with the subcommittee to come up with the preferred method or methods of dealing with the removal or remedia tion of the wastes at the site. The Clean-up criteria subcommittee subcommittee is nearing the end of its work and is ready to make recommendations for the Port Granby site. We are now better able to answer the question "How clean is clean enough?" We welcome your questions and suggestions suggestions about this very important topic and are ready, willing and able to come to you, your family, social' or church group to answer that question. How is the material to bo moved hits been a persistent question for several years and we are Finally going going to get some definite answers to that question during a two day presentation presentation at the Carlyle Inn in Port Hope on Friday, December 3rd and Saturday, December 4th, 1993. Many from this area enjoyed the Royal Winter Fair which was held the past two weeks. From all reports the Royal was especially successful this year. On Sunday afternoon Gerald and Joyce Kelly visited Fred Pawley of Port Hope and accompanied him to visit his wife Nancy in the Port Hope Nursing Home. Later they were dinner dinner guests of Fred. On Sunday morning, many local members of the Van Camp family attended attended church service at St. Stephen's Stephen's United Church in North Oshawa where a stained glass window window was dedicated in memory of Stephen Stephen Saywcll, long time minister of this church. A very special event. There were 11 tables at the weekly weekly card party with the following winners winners - Edna Manns, Richard Manns, James Emcrton, Carl Ferguson, Gordon Gordon Finney, Dorothy Beach and Olive Ormiston. Winners of the draws were Bernice Appleton, Dorothy Dorothy Beach, James Emcrton, Earla Hill and Norma Rohrcr. It is an excellent opportunity to let the area know of your event. A successful cookie drive was held on Saturday by the various groups of the Guiding Movement. Appreciation to the leaders, parents and local businesses for their help in making this event such a success. Eighteen ladies met at the home of Margaret Mountjoy for the November November 17 U.C.W. meeting. Edith McLaughlin, our unit leader, leader, opened the meeting with a poem, "Clouds." She welcomed everyone and thanked Margaret for hosting the meeting. Business was dealt with by the meeting.. Connie Swain had the worship. She was getting us ready for Christmas season and read from "Reaching for Rainbows" by Arm Weems. Eileen McLaughlin was responsible responsible for the program. She introduced introduced Michelle Balsam who modelled modelled and showed us her "weekend clothing." The Christmas meeting will be at Lois Luke's home on December 14 at 10:30 a.m. with a pot luck luncheon. All ladies arc welcome to come and bring your pot. Much to the dismay of the existing board members, no one showed up! People, where is your sense of community community spirit? Maybe I should have stressed the importance of having the H.C.A. The board must function in order for the Community Centre to remain open. If the centre is closed where will the Brownies, Pathfinders, Scouts or A.A. meeting? How many of you have had a celebration there, at a great price because you are a resident? resident? The H.C.A. meets once a month. The main agenda is a curator's curator's report Filling you in on hall rentals rentals and other items pertaining to it. The Hampton Community Association Association is a non profit organization. If any events are planned, the moneys go back into the community. Also, please remember that it was H.C.A. that was largely responsible for the beautification of Elliot Park, if you can be of any assistance, please call a board member, President Lee Campbell Campbell at 263-2018, Vice-President Beth Knowlcr at 263-8335, Treasurer Edith Beavis at 263-2755 or Secretary Secretary Denise Brown at 263-8859. The United Church Women of Hampton met on Monday, November 15th. Their guest speakers were the four local Pathfinders who attended Guelph '93 International. The Wednesday Euchre Card Party Party had some fine results. Doreen Ferguson Ferguson had the highest score of 91. In second place was Fred Watson with 81. Rac Shackleton also had 81. This was followed by Marg Hall with 78 and Harvey Ycllowlccs who had 76. Don Cochrane had the Most Lone Hands of five. The night's Most Honest Honest Player was George Harper. No one won the Special. The draw winners winners were Ruby Trewin, Ruby Smith, Wilma Goyne, Alma Langmaid and Harvey Ycllowlees. This past Sunday a Men's Breakfast Breakfast was held in Hampton. The guest speaker was Her Worship Mayor Diane Hamre of Clarington. It'was an enjoyable time for all. Some "last call" mentions. The County Town Singers will be performing performing at the Hampton United Church this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. There should . be a few tickets left at the door. Also on Saturday, The Doug Barr Children's Children's Show" will be performing at the Hampton Junior Public School. --This starts at 11:00 a.m. There is no ® reserved seating. Tickets can be purchased purchased at the door. The Hampton Community Association Association in conjunction with the Hampton/Enniskillen Hampton/Enniskillen will be holding a Tree Lighting Ceremony. This is to take place on Thursday, December 8th at 7:00 p.m. in front of the centre. The H.C.A. have purchased the lights. Anyone wishing to donate ornaments ornaments may do so. Everyone is welcome welcome to join in on the fun of decorating decorating and singing Christmas Carols. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served in the center afterwards. A Mitten Tree Service will be held on Sunday, December 5th. The new mittens, scarves and hats arc then collected and sent to the needy. This will also be the Advent Carol Service..It will be a combined service at the Zion Church at Mitchell's Corner. Corner. The White Gift Service will be held December 12th at 9:30 a.m. in the C.E. Wing. The Sunday School will be participating. Everyone is asked to please bring a non- perishable unwrapped item. These could be playing cards, candies, colognes, colognes, socks etc. Also please note that it is Turkey Tree Time again: For every twenty- five dollars collected in donations, a turkey cut-out is placed on the tree. Each turkey cut-out will buy an eating eating turkey for the Men's Hostel in Oshawa for their Christmas dinner. Not everyone is as fortunate as ourselves. ourselves.
