The dancers belong to the Baseline Community Community Centre Square Dancers, in Bowmanville. They were the main entertainment, after the society's dinner. Solina W.l. Hosts Turkey Supper Solina W.l. members, husbands and friends gathered in the lower hall amid Christmas decorations to enjoy a delicious turkey supper at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 1993. Following Grace, 55 sat down to the bountiful feast. Food and gifts were given for Salvation Army, Margaret Ford, president, welcomed welcomed everyone at 8:00 p.m. and opened the meeting with a reading entitled, "My Favourite Gift for Christmas." on Beech Street. Shown with some of the turkeys to be given away are Jack Dunn, Chair of the Turkey Roll Committee, Moe Richards the Main Drawer, Dave Miller and Russ Gibson. Gibson. They sold tickets and those whose numbers were drawn won a turkey. By the way, for the turkey- counters out there, we have decided that just the ONE turkey which is being held by Mr. Dunn will be counted in the contest. Correspondence was read by Secretary-Treasurer Secretary-Treasurer Alma Langmaid, including including a Christmas Card from Rose Marie, our sponsored child in Haiti. Each FWIO member will receive a questionnaire soon. It is to be completed completed and returned to Alma at the January meeting. We received a Christmas card and Calendar from the Bilton W.l. in England. Reports for Friendship and Christ- More Than 50 Seniors Enjoy Color Tour The Bowmanville Kinsmen and Kineties' Annual Seniors' Christmas Christmas Light Tour attracted about 55 seniors on Sunday night, Dec. 12. Helping these ladies onto the chartered bus are Wayne Hodge, Reg Suggitt, Randy Cruickshank and Peter Bruce. The seniors were to be taken up old Scugog Road and into all the courts, then to Meams Avenue. Avenue. Once the lights were looked at, the seniors were whisked back to St. Paul's United Church Hall for some refreshments and a visit with Santa. Margaret announced an Executive meeting for January 5/94 at 8:00 p.m. at Margaret's home. The Village Group, under the leadership of Joyce Taylor, provided an entertaining program. Joyce read a wonderful story of an older woman in a nursing home who fell in love at Christmas. Margaret Ford, school marm, led her group members, (now changed to a Grade 1 Class), through their antics in preparation for the upcoming concert. concert. Bernice Watson read a piece entitled entitled "Pride," that we could relate to. Everyone enjoyed the singsong , ofnv Christmas songs and carols led by ■ Margaret and accompanied by Joyce Taylor. The Village Group provided the "bell sounds" for an enjoyable singsong. Then, "Santa" arrived and handed out the "Secret Pal" gifts and gifts from Santa for our guests. A special thanks to all who helped make this wonderful evening. Bruce Taylor, on behalf of the, men present thanked the W.L for the invitation to attend. The meeting closed with the singing singing of "We Wish You A Merry Christmas." Our best wishes to all of you at The Statesman as well. Donna Barkey. Pot Luck Supper Served During Joint Meeting in Maple Grove The yearly joint meeting of our two ladies groups was held on December December 6th at 6:30 p.m. in the C.E. Hall. This was a Pot Luck Supper and social evening. All ladies received received a name tag and small table favour favour made by Mrs. A. Noordstra. Mrs. A. Vandergaast, W.l. President, President, welcomed all the ladies, especially especially our District President Mrs, Margaret Ford and Mrs. Barbara Kapteyn of Solina. Our usual welcome song by Dorothy McIntyre and Joan Russell was sung. The W.l. grace was repeated before all partook of various casseroles, salads, jellies and rolls followed by a variety of desserts. The program that followed was convened by the U.C.W. Joan Russell Russell with Dorothy McIntyre at the piano, piano, led in a variety of Christmas Carols. Collection was in aid of the Salvation Army Christmas Cheer Fund and amounted to $169.00. Happy Birthdays were sung to Win Brown and Ruth Wood whose birthdays followed on December 7th and 9th. Mrs. R. Bubar was in charge of distribution of several gifts under the Christmas tree. The Christmas Story was in the form of readings by Joan Russell interspersed interspersed with action and songs by several of the girls and. Indies. Those taking part were Joan Russell, Dorothy Dorothy McIntyre, Betty Snowden, Doreen Doreen Kelsey, Mnrg Down, Ruth Geddcs, Marilyn Kemp, Tanya Snowden and Charity Campbell. The audience also joined in singing several several carols. Mrs. J. Geddcs, U.C.W. Pres, thanked everyone for taking part in the program. A special vote of thanks was ex' tended to two of our young people, Ian and Erin Kelsey, who did the dishes.
