However, a sidewalk will be built instead. A report from the Clarington Public Works Department Director, Walter Evans, stated the sidewalk will go from the Peter's Pike park- ette to Mill Lane. Clarington will have a 426-foot sidewalk built for an estimated cost of $15,000. The body of 23-year-old Shelly Nadine Taylor was found in an apartment on Nonquon Road in Oshawa. Her 32-year-old boyfriend, John Elliott Tavenor, was charged Saturday with first-degree murder. He was to appear in court on Monday morning where he was to be formally remanded in custody. Police officers were called to the couple's north Oshawa apartment at 2:55 p.m. after a 911 call was made. PORT PERRY -- The Open Air Ice Palace could be ready for use this weekend. A crew began installing the fencing around the rink on Tuesday, Jan. 4. Once the rink is fenced, it will be plowed and ready for skaters. The ice on Lake Scugog is between 10 to 12 inches thick, the required thickness to allow vehicles access to the area. This year, the rink will be the size of 2.5 football fields. It will stretch from the foot of Queen Street to the tennis courts in Port Perry. There will be three areas for use: two for family skating and a third will be a speed-skating oval. Hours: weekdays -- 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturdays -- 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sundays -- 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. WHITBY -- Two Oshawa men have been convicted of killing a 75-year old local fiddler in a vicious, unprovoked attack on the man behind his apartment building in 1991. The verdict, reached by the six-man, five-woman jury came after a day and one-half of deliberations. Guilty of the second-degree murder of Gerald Stinson are Barry Chaliice and James Parsons. They will be sentenced in mid-January by Mr. Justice John Mclsaac. The defence lawyer for Parsons said they will appeal the murder conviction. Stinson, who was known by his nickname 'Shorty' because of his 4 foot 11 inch height, was parking his car after leaving his wife at the door of the apartment complex in north Oshawa on Nov. 10, 1991. He was attacked by two.mcn, who threw, him on the ground and kicked him in the head, face apd ribs. The beating broke some of Stinson's ribs,. crushed his larynx and he died! During the trial, both accused men admitted to kicking Stinson, but denied killing him. Parsons said they only wanted his money and car so they could leave the area and drive to Kitchener. The attack on Stinson came after a robbery earlier that evening.
