Results of Grade 9 Tests Are Released to Students The first phase of the 1993-94 Ontario Ontario Grade 9 Reading and Writing Test has concluded, as the Ministry of Education and Training has returned individual results to 40,000 students who wrote the test last fall. A further 100,000 students will be taking the test this spring. "We are now mid-way through a test that is an important step to building building public confidence in education through greater accountability," said Education and Training Minister Dave Cooke. "Support for the test from parents parents has been enthusiastic. These individual individual results will help them see how well their children are learning the essential essential skills of reading and writing." The tests were marked in December December by some 200 specially trained teachers, who marked over 200,000 pieces of work from the students. The marking process was a model of efficiency efficiency and co-operation on the part of teachers, Cooke said. The students who wrote the test in the fall, and are now receiving their individual results, took English/ Français in their fust semester. Students Students in non-semestered schools will start the test in February 1994, while students taking English/Français in their second semester will start in mid-March. At the end of the year, all Grade 9 students will have participated participated in the test. The results that have gone to students students are individual results only. A provincial report on the overall results is expected in the fall of 1994. "These individual results will give parents and students a picture of individual individual achievement at a crucial stage of education as well as providing the opportunity for dialogue between teachers, students and their parents at an early stage of secondary school," said Cooke. "For these reasons we will hold a Grade 9 Reading and Writing Writing Test for all Grade 9 students again -in the next school year."
