These young ladies were sponsored sponsored by our U.C.W. organization to attend the 4-day Convention, held last December in Toronto, Marriott Hotel, Toe-Alpha Meeting. This is a national organization of Youth Concerns, Concerns, including alcohol and drugs, and youth problems. The first positive item on the agenda, was the exciting welcome of "hugs and kisses" for everyone! A great many seminars in a wide variety variety of subjects were at the girls' disposal, disposal, and each one picked out their favorite. favorite. A very valuable C.P.R. Certificate course was available. Music Music and swimming were also favourites favourites of many! Fellowship was a much treasured item by our girls, and is such an important part of our youth today. . The only low point was the meal menus. It could really stand some improvement! improvement! . Our girls really enjoyed their convention convention and look forward,to again attending! attending! They thanked our U.C.W. for our sponsorship and felt it all worthwhile. Between 250-300 young people, ages 14-24 years, were in attendance at this event. Reverend Barry Pogue was introduced introduced and brought us all up to date, on the large selection of gifts, books etc on display. Reverend Pogue told us how we have a new book store for our areas. It's called "Good News Books and Supplies Centre" and is located in Northminster United Church, Simcoc Sir. and Rossland Rd. ■ The ladies of unit 1/4 served a tasty tasty lunch to close the meeting. At times her stoiy was quite sad and at others rather humorous. Scan reminds us of the excellence and perseverance of the early immigrants immigrants who left their home countries and all their friends and in the Eikcns case, on their honeymoon! They brought their farming expertise expertise here, and excelled in Tobacco growing, and became successful Canadians. Some very old, one over 100 years, some belonging to Inez Hams' mother, mother, Mrs. Morton, a lovely comforter filled with pure sheep's wool (from Gray's farm) Ken's parents; a log cabin pattern, 2 or 3 recycled new quilts, a very pretty one (pink and blue) "Grandma's Square" from Karen Karen Yourth. A brand new one, all hand quilted by women of China; and just recently bought! A brand new framed picture, advertising "Early Canadian quills" shown at the "Sigmund Samuel Samuel Canadiana Building" courtesy ROM - Dated October 13, 1984 - April 8 1985, was on this quilt display display (courtesy of Isabelle). Sr. C's Meeting Good attendance at the monthly meeting of "Orono Sr. C's", held Thursday afternoon March 10, in Orono I.O.O.F. hall. Kirby Mothers and Tots meet on Fridays 9:30 - 11 a.m. Any mothers and their pre-school children are-invited are-invited to join these groups. Maudy Thursday: 6:00 p.m. in the Lower C.E. Hall there will be a Communion Communion Supper. This will be a light meal during which we shall share Communion. The Thursday of Holy Week was when Jesus, during supper, supper, broke bread and shared it with the words - 'This is my body' and then, after supper, shared the cup of wine with the words: 'This is my blood'. We shall try to share in that experience. We should finish about 7:45 p.m. Good Friday: 10:00 a.m. There will be a joint service with the Anglican Anglican congregation of St. Saviour's. The service will be lead by the clergy and lay members from both churches. It will last about an hour. We shall concentrate on Jesus' experience during during the last hours of his life. Easter Sunrise Service: There will be an Easter Sunrise Service at 7:00 a.m. in the Orono Cemetery at the top of the hill above the chapel. The service service will last about half an hour. There will be coffee and doughnuts served in the chapel afterwards. If the morning is wet the entire service will be in the chapel. Easter Morning Breakfast: will be served at Kirby from 8:00 a.m. Anyone Anyone who would like to come will be most welcomed.
