The March meeting of Solina W.L was held March 9/94 with President Margaret Ford opening with a poem about March and a welcome to visitors visitors and W.l. members. We sang the Institute Ode and repeated repeated the Mary Stewart Collect. Blaikie Rowsell had the Cancer Society Collection baskets and needs volunteers for these kits for canvassing. canvassing. Friendship report was given by Marion Broome. Lois Yellowlees, District Director reported on their recent executive meeting. District Annual is May 11 at Trinity, Bowmanville. Brenda Metcalf, Metcalf, Dairy Educator will be the speaker.. Lois gave by-law changes and revisions. Donna Barkey asked the group leaders for the yearly figures figures from groups for the annual PRO Report. Viola Ashton has ordered three covers for our Tweedsmuir Books. Viola gave an idea of the numerous numerous "Special Days" at the Ontario Agricultural Museum, Milton. These included Dairy Days, Seniors Days in June, a Canada Day Birthday Party, Antique Tractor Days, Quilt Fest August August 12-21 and many more. For a complete list of activities and dates or if you can help out on some of these days, contact Viola Ashton. Mary Millson reported on the Library Library meeting. Membership for '94 is due. Our Roll Call "Why does Canada attract people from other countries?" gave many replies including "free doms, privileges, opportunities, museums, museums, our standard of living, Canada's Canada's a great country," to "one can be what one wants to be." Helen Hancock gave the motto, "Citizenship is an appreciation of the culture and heritage of all parts of our country." Helen referred to Sandra Martin's writings for Canada's 125th in which Canada is seen as a "working "working model of the future, seeking a richer life for families, an example for others." Jean Knox introduced her grandson grandson Jeff Kerr as our guest speaker. Jeff, a graduate of Waterloo, taught English in Poland for a year. Jeff gave us an outline of Poland through its History, Geography, Economy and Politics. State jobs averaged averaged $200 to $300 Canadian per month while the private sector workers workers received about $700 per month. Jeff gave us an excellent commentary on Poland, then took us throughout the country with slides to show us the fields, plains, and woodlands, along with the beautiful churches and town buildings. We heard of the many experiences experiences Jeff had during this term. Jeff had worked with the Polish Canadian Canadian Congress to acquire this job. Karen Dair thanked Jeff for this informative talk and slides. Joyce Hancock showed us the design design for the Quilt Fest. She is also interested interested in forming a quiltcrs' group ' within W.L to participate in quilting events. We look forward to this with Joyce's expertise. Our April meeting will be at 7:00 p.m., dessert with the 4-H Drama Club making a presentation. Our April meeting will follow at 8:00 p.m. on April 13/94. We closed our meeting with O Canada and the Institute Grace. A social hour and lunch in the St. Patrick's Theme by the West Group was enjoyed downstairs. At this time the Village Group conducted the ACWW Draws.
