Quartet Brings Popular 50's Tunes to Rotary Club Anniversary Celebration St. Paul's United Church Offers Concert Series for April and May PETS AND THEIR PEOPLE - Dr. Clayton MacKay, the director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the Ontario Veterinary College, will be the speaker at the Bowmanville Library on Thursday, April 7. The program begins at seven p.m. and will include a special slide show. Questions pertaining to the trend between humans and animals will be answered at this presentation. Other topics include: How does the bond develop between humans and animals? and Why do our pets mean so much to us and what do we mean to them? Please register in person or by calling 623-7322. St. Paul's United Church will be bringing three inspirational concerts to Bowmanville this spring through its 1994 Performing Arts Series. The first concert, scheduled for this Saturday evening, April 9th, at 7:30 p.m. is Voices-Relyea, a family quartet whose members excel at opera, opera, oratorio, recital and cabaret venues. venues. Set in a Victorian parlor, this , concert is nostalgic, amusing and serious serious at the same time. The singers wear period costumes and the songs range from the comic to the serious. Some, such as the temperance songs, are more amusing today than originally intended, while others are emotionally touching. The members of Voices - Relyea are Gary Relyea, his wife, Anna Tamm-Relyea, his sister Deanna Relyea, Relyea, and his son, John Haley- Relyea. The second concert in the series is Open Line, a tnimpet and accordion accordion ensemble coming to St. Paul's Sunday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m. Guy Few (trumpet/piano) and Joseph Joseph Petrie (accordion) have pioneered pioneered successful solo careers. Both men are lauded for musi cianship, style, inventiveness, and daring. Together, they have left a trail of converted skeptics wide-eyed with excitement. The third concert in the series is set for Sunday, May 29th at 7:30 p.m. La Jeunesse, Northumberland Girls Choir, has toured extensively in Ontario, in eastern Canada, and most recently in England, where they attended the International Music Music Festival in Shrewsbury. While in England, they received a gold medal at the Anglo-International Music Festival in London. There are 40 girls in the choir. The members range in age from ten to 18. The choir repertoire includes all types of music from Renaissance to contemporary, classical and popular.
