Enjoyable Bus Trip On Monday, April 11, a bus load of Orono, Newcastle and Bowmanville Bowmanville folks enjoyed a delightful "day out". We journeyed to Toronto 43rd Home Show to witness all the latest in surroundings, homes etc. One of the first items of extreme interest, was of course the very elegant elegant modular home which this year had a West Indies plantation - style decor, designed by John Shields, a Toronto based interior design firm. The home is manufactured by our neighbours "Viceroy Homes" in Port Hope. The home was pre-cut and packaged in a matter of days; and took just one week to assemble and furnish this glamorous home inside Coliseum. Even the interior finishes, wallpaper, wallpaper, broadloom and yes even the stereo stereo equipment all supplied at building source. A three bedroom home, sunken sunken living room, beautiful kitchen cupboards cupboards in cherry finish! Really a dream home for anyone! Lots of exciting booths to view and of course the flower gardens and displays were eye-catching. A delightful delightful day out for everyone, after a long "old" winter. Congratulations are extended to Marlene and Frank Glasbergen of Yelverton on the safe arrival of their first grandchild - a grandson courtesy of their eldest daughter Denyse and hubby Emy. Coady was bom in Oshawa. General General Hospital on Tuesday April 5th weighing in at 7 lbs. 6 oz. Another great grandchild for Mrs. Alice McGill of Yelverton and Mrs. Eizab- eth Glasbergen of Whitby. Here on our Yelverton Road South the peace and tranquility which has been part and parcel of our daily lives 99% of the time was sadly shattered shattered on Wednesday evening. The reason was that the Gendarmes of the area - better known as the O.P.P. reenacted reenacted their own particular version of "Cops and Robbers" in that stretch of road bordering on our domicile. From the sketchy information available to us, some miscreants (that's a good word) had apparently been observed helping themselves from some one elsc's larder or whatever. whatever. The police gave chase and eventually the pursued turned off 7A Highway onto - namely - the Slant Road, the old Manvers road and more recently designated by the Dept, of Orono United Church Birthday greetings to: Candice Sharpe (O) April 17, Stephanie Rutherford Rutherford (K) April 20, Linda DiBartolo- meo (K) April 20, Iris Lambier (K) April 21, Joshua Kent (O) April 23. The chase was going nicely, apparently, apparently, until the "chaste" missed a 45° angle in the road which had been suitably marked last year by our Manvers Road authority. Unfortu- nately the sign is about 8 feet high - about 4 feet higher than car vision. The obvious happened. The fugitive fugitive car left the road and veered along the ditch until it came to rest against a very sturdy 50 foot pressure-treated Hydro pole. The impact broke the pole in the middle, gave us a very brief electrical black out when the Hydro crews replaced it during the night. The car fared much worse. The culprit took off on foot through the adjacent fields. Eventually a police tracking dog was brought in to follow his trail - which wasn't too difficult even for a police dog, since it had just snowed half a foot of white soft stuff. Unfortunately, we have no end for our tale. The vehicle was towed away eventually by a tow truck. The police cars continued to melt the snow on our sideroad. We left our window where we had surreptitiously watched the shenanigans and toddled off to bed none the wiser.
