The NEWAC swimmers began their preparation for long-course with a one-week training camp at the 50m Brock University pool in March, and arc now reaping the benefits of the extra work. Beers To the fans of the Bowmanville Eagles Jr. C hockey club On behalf of our hockey club, I would like to express our sincere sincere appreciation for the overwhelming overwhelming support of the residents of the Town of Clarington in our quest for the Ontario championship. championship. We have enjoyed sellouts for every game from the league final to now. Your boisterous support has enabled us to take the Port Perry and Napanee series to seventh- seventh- game wins. The fifth and seventh games, played in Napanee, proved beyond beyond a doubt that you are the best fans in Junior C hockey, as over 250 of you made the trip to enjoy some of the most exciting and emotional hockey played in years. We are now faced with a door-die door-die situation with Rockton as we are now down three to one. Injuries Injuries have hurt us, but we expect all of our injured players back on Thursday for game five. We know, with your support, game seven will again be ours. Unfortunately, the Town of Clarington will not accommodate us for ice on Tuesday, April 26, and has requested that we play Monday, April 25. As the schedule, approved by our town, was set some time ago, neither Rockton nor Bowmanville are prepared to play back-to-back Sunday and Monday games, especially especially with nagging injuries and the need for precious time for those injured players to heal. If arrangements cannot be made with Rockton, we could be forced by the town to move the seventh game to the only ice available, which is in Ajax. We, the Bowmanville Eagles, do not want to do this, but we may be forced to. Our fans and our team deserve to have game seven played in Bowmanville. After After all, home ice advantage should simply be that. In any event, your continued support has helped put Bowmanville Bowmanville Junior C hockey back on the map in Ontario. Yours very truly Michael D. Laing Manager, Bowmanville Eagles ! By Ted Denny Cowan Pontiac-Buick Most new vehicles come equipped witli good safety features, such as scat belts, air bags, side guard door beams and a steel safely cage that surround the driver and passengers. But, all the carefully engineered safety features can't make up for a careless driver. In fact, driver error is the number one cause of traffic accidents, which means that most accidents could be avoided with a little I extra driver care and the use of common sense. * Preparation - make sure the mirrors are adjusted and windows arc clear, that doors arc shut and locked and that every passenger has a scat belt on. * Drive cautiously and defensively. * Slow down and always j maintain control of your vehicle especially under poor road conditions, such as in rain, snow and ice. * Keep your vehicle well maintained at all times. * Be aware that your reaction times slow down as you get older. * No vehicle, regardless of how carefully engineered or well equipped it might be, can make up for an inattentive or irresponsible driver. Ultimately-- SAFETY IS UP TO YOU! For more information I can reached at Cowan Pontiac-Buick 905-623-3396. ~ The highlight performance of the meet was turned in by Kelly Ogilivie who bettered her 100m breaststroke time by over one and a half seconds, and qualified for the first time for Eastern Cup (formerly known as Division Division Two Nationals). This is an important important step for a swimmer and marks the beginning of their career as a Senior level simmer (all events arc open, ic no age groups, at Division Two and Senior National Championships). Championships). Kelly joins Dave James, another another recent first time qualifier (who also had a very strong sprint breaststroke breaststroke race this weekend), to bring the strength of the NEWAC Division II squad up to eight athletes with more to come. This group is by far the largest and most competitive squad fielded by NEWAC to date. Expect great things in the future. PITCH-IN CANADA! D DWMflnUl LLE BOWMANVILLE 1994-95 B.M.H.fl. and B.R.H.L.
