SOAP OPERA COMES TO COURTICE SECONDARY - The Courtice Secondary School Players will present the soap opera musical entitled "Money, Power, Murder, Lust, Revenge and Marvelous Clothes." early next month. THURSDAY, MAY 5TH KINSMEN VARIETY SHOW -- The Bowmanville Kinsmen Club will present their Variety Extravaganza on Thursday, May 5th, at the Bowmanville High School auditorium. It begins at 7 p.m. and features dancing, memories of Elvis, Peter the Illusionist, "Buddy Holly," a stand-up comic and lots more. NEW EXHIBITION OPENS AT VISUAL ARTS CENTRE - A show featuring work of three Durham artists entitled "Drawing - A Broader View" opens at the Visual Arts Centre and continues to May 27. The artists include Ruth Latimer, Ruth Read and Richard Toms. The opening celebration will be May 15th, from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Visual Arts Centre, located off Simpson Ave„ in Bowmanville. THE MISANTHROPE -- The St. Stephen's Secondary School opens a five-act comedy entitled The Misanthrope. It will be performed at the St. Stephen's High School administration building. LOCAL HISTORIAN SIGNS BOOK AT MUSEUM - You're invited invited to meet the author of a new book about Bowmanville's history at the Bowmanville Museum. George F. Vice, a former Postmaster of Bowmanville, has written a book entitled "The Post Office and Early Development in Bowmanville. This book not only gives an informative informative account of postal history in our area, but also relates the history of local postal service to the general heritage of the area. The book- signing is from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be free admission and refreshments will be served. The sale of this book is a museum fundraising fundraising project. Books cost $10 each. MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS DAY - Over 50 local agencies will provide information and education about their respective programs at a Mental health Awareness Day at the Five Points Mall, 285 Taunton Rd. E., Oshawa., from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. This event is co-hosted by the Oshawa/Whitby Clarington COPE Mental Health Program.s and COPE Committee members. Everyone is welcome and admission is free. The concert features Ron Korb playing bamboo flute, accompanied by keyboards, bass percussion and classical guitar. .This musical offering provides a unique fusion of musical styles which bridge the East and West. THURSDAY, MAY 12TH RABIES VACCINATION CLINIC - The South Durham Veterinary Association will hold its annual Rabies Vaccination Clinic at the Bowmanville Recreation Complex. Dog and cat owners are invited to bring their animals to the clinic between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. for a low-cost vaccination against rabies. GANARASKA FOREST CELEBRATES 50 YEARS - The Ganaraska Region Conservation Area will pay tribute to the lasting legacy of the Ganaraska Forest. Special events will include a tree-planting, the unveiling of a rock monument, conservation displays, time capsule displays, videos and forest tours. The event will begin at two p.m. at the Ganaraska Forest Centre. If you or a special group would like to become involved with the celebrations, please call 905-885-8173. The conservation movement of Ontario was sparked by the development of The Ganaraska Watershed Report which helped establish the Ganaraska Forest 50 years ago. PRAYER BREAKFAST - Hon. Paul Hellyer, former cabinet minister minister with the St. Laurent, Pearson and Trudeau governments will be the guest speaker at the municipality of Clarington's annual Christian Prayer Breakfast. SATURDAY, MAY 14TH STREAM ANGLING AND FISHING TOURNAMENT - The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority will host a two-day rainbow trout fishing tournament at the Bowmanville Harbour Conservation Area. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. It's free to the public, however all participants must register. Registrations will be taken by the fish cleaning station. The new location of the car washes will be at the Miracle Mart Parking lot (west end) in the Bowmanville Mall. Bowmanville Optimist Club Vice-President Bill Whaley stated, the Optimists are anxious to get the car wash under way. It will be a fund-raiser for numerous projects of die service club. The next car wash is Saturday, May 14. YARD SALE AND BARBEQUE HELP FOOD BANK - The public is invited to attend a barbeque and yard sale to benefit the Helping Hands Food Bank on Saturday, May 14. This event will lake place at 2170 Prcstonvalc Rd., in Courtice. Proceeds will go towards some much-needed repairs for the Food Bank. People arc also asked to bring non-perishable goods. ENVIRONMENT FAIR-- The annual Environment Fair is back. But, this year, it will take place at a new location. The fair will be at the Jubilee Pavilion in Oshawa.
