J Documents related to the early history of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Bowmanville were presented presented to the Presbyterian Church national archives on Sunday, during anniversary celebrations at St. Andrew's. Mr. Millar was guest speaker at St. Andrew's 160th anniversary célébrations célébrations held May 1.. j î \i Some !of The: documents in the Faiihaim collection include letters dating back to ljS33. : j Robert Fairbaim first arrived in Bowmanville. in 1824 when he took charge of Bowman's store. In 1828, be became Bowmanville's first postmaster. postmaster. His son, James Brougham Fairbaim, took over as postmaster in 1857 and continued in that role until his death in September of 1906. Both the Fairbaims played an important important part in the history of the Presbyterian church in Bowmanville, Bowmanville, with Mr. Fairbaim senior serving serving as a member of the committee which helped establish a Presbyterian Presbyterian presence in the town. His son was an elder in the church. The Fairbaim Papers consist of letters concerning the hiring of the first minister, the sale of property, etc. Also included in the collection are agreements over the building of the first church and many other important important documents. The papers were in the possession possession of Elsie Lunney, a Bowmanville Bowmanville historian and co-author of the book: "Bowmanville, A Retrospect." Retrospect."
