However, the parents parents may not have had as much confidence. confidence. With no selects aind three rookies how could this be a championship championship team? They went out and won their first game 2-1 and a flicker of hope could be seen. This was quickly snuffed out as Bragg's hammered them 8-0 in their second outing. The boys didn't like the feeling and vowed it would not happen again. A sponsor was found - Thursday Night Town League. After a private team meeting, it was voted that the Thursday Night Town League was too long a name for the fans to chant so they would call themselves the "Leafs". Things went along smoothly until a frosty December day in Newcastle during Christmas break when the Leafs lost the 'B' Championship 4-2 to a strong team called Union Oil. After coming so close to victoiy against the League powerhouse, the Leafs could sense that maybe, just maybe, brighter things were in store for '94. And so it was. After capturing the 'A' Championship Championship in Port Hope and the 'A* Championship in Trenton, the Leafs determined that they were going to take a run at the League Championship.' Championship.' They finished the regular season tied for second and rolled along in the round robin with five wins. Then Union Oil, needing a victory to stay in contention for the 'A' Championship, Championship, downed the Leafs 4-0. The Leafs knew they would have their hands full in the finals. In game one of the* A' Finals the boys charged out of the gate and downed Union Oil 4-1. In the second game, Union Oil fought back but could only manage a tic against the determined Leafs. This meant there would be a third and final game. The stage was set and the Leafs knew this was one game they had to win. It was a total team effort with every every one of the 16 boys digging down deep. Despite going behind early in the first when David Brown scored for Union Oil, the Leafs kept up their dogged checking and it paid off as Chris Beneteau--blasted a slapshot from the point to tie thé game. Assists Assists on the goal went to Zachary Vine and Jeff MacPherson. In the second period, Darren Kelly made a nice rush and beat the Union Oil goalie to give the Leafs the lead. The remainder of the game saw some great end-to-end action with Andrew Millson playing just like "the Cat" to keep the Leafs in the lead, and they hung on to defeat Union Oil 2-1. They had captured the "Novice 'A' Championship" and they were an elated group. Like all winning teams, they had outstanding goaltcnding. The Leafs had one of the best in Andrew Mili- fry Ted Denny Cowan Pontiac-Buick CLEANING THE INSIDE OF YOUR CAR Use a vacuum cleaner often to get rid of dust and loose dirt, Wipe vinyl or leather with a clean damp cloth. Around him was built a strong defense of Alan Baker, Chris Bene- teau, Dale Hubbs, Scott Schultz, Matt Tamblyn, and Justin Ross. Up the middle were the talented Darren Kelly, Kelly, James Harris and Matt Withers. On the wings were the hardworking cornermen Jody Halik; Jeff MacPherson, MacPherson, Brooks Robinson, Zachery Vince, Derrick Watt and Bradley Knox. Each of these boys worked hard all year and their efforts and discipline discipline were rewarded. The coaches, Darrell Knox, John Tamblyn and Dan Ross, would like to congratulate the entire team. They finished their season with a 34-7-2 record. Thanks to the parents for their patience and support. You were really really great. The boys had the loudest and most boisterous fans in the league. You kept us going even when the score was not in our favour. Thanks also to the Thursday Night Town League for their sponsorship. Your generosity enabled a group of boys to have a wonderful season which will long be remembered. BOWMANVILLE 1994-95 B.M.H.A. and B.R.H.L.
