Nicky Dewhurst, a British British low-wire artist who performed with the Cirque du Soleil last year in Las Vegas, will be arriving in Peterborough Peterborough at the end of May. Dewhurst, who will share the role of Farini with actor Erik Bums ('Little Dick' in last year's production production of The Cavan Blazers), will perform perform on a high wire over thé barnyard barnyard that serves as the 4th Line stage. Accomplished on the tightrope (on which he can execute back flips), he is enthusiastic about doing something a little out-of-the-ordinary with his talent by working in the different context of outdoor theatre. He is also excited by the prospect of helping to stage circus feats such as the human cannonball and the flying trapeze, and teaching the cast of local amateur, and professional actors some basic circus skills, including juggling, tumbling tumbling and stilt-walking. The Great Farini is scheduled to run from July 6 to August 7 at the 4th Line Theatre, 15 miles southwest of Peterborough, Ontario, in Cavan Township, near Millbrook. Written by Farini biographer Shane Peacock, the play will bring the incredible story story of one of Canada's least known and most spectacular personalities to life. William Hunt, a Bowmanville citizen, (stage name Farini), competed competed with Blondin on a tightrope over Niagara Falls in the mid-1800s, invented invented the human cannonball act, explored the Kalahari Desert, wrote several books, became a painter in his 60s and lived an active life until his death in 1929 at the age of 90. This play may very well create a new national folk hero, Canada's answer to Bamum or Houdini. Along with a re-mount of The Moodie Traill, based on the diaries of pioneer writers Susanna Moodie and Catharine Parr Traill, the 1994 season season is shaping up to be the 4th Line's most exciting yet. Staged on the southern Ontario farm of artistic director Robert Winslow, Winslow, 4th Line plays have the magical effect of bringing our history to life before our eyes.
