Members Receive Awards at Annual Banquet TOPS ON870, Bowmanville held their annual Awards Night, Thursday April 7th 1994, at the Lions Centre on Beech Avenue. The theme "April Showers Bring May Flowers" was evident, with the tables being decorated decorated with beautiful spring flowers of all colors. The awards ceremony started with Second Meeting For Jr. Dairy Club The second meeting of the Durham Durham East Junior Dairy Club was held on May 2nd, 1994 at Eric Bowman's at 7:30 p.m. The meeting was opened with the 4-H Pledge followed by the roll call and the reading of the minutes. We had a discussion about the need for a new banner when our club goes out of country to various shows. The Barkey's have been looking into this and Mrs. Verholven has volunteered volunteered to make one for the club. There will be further discussion on this topic. We then chose the Exhibit Team. This includes: Josh H., Elizabeth M., Kathryn B., Mark B. Mr. Henderson demonstrated how to weigh a cow by tape, listen to the cow's heart rate and showed us some of the parts of a cow. Our cow "Silk" seemed to enjoy being part of the demonstration. We then went to judge,a class of 2 year old cattle. The meeting adjourned with a snack of milk and cookies. Donna Benschop thanked the hosts for having having the meeting. The next meeting is June 7, 1994 at 7:30 at Bill Tamblyn's Orono. This year our Miss Personality trophy went to Tammy Fleming, and the Miss Inspiration trophy to Aggie Portelance. "Congratulations, Girls"! Next out with the "old" and in with the "new". After being presented presented with gifts, the previous Executive leader, Claire Strong; Co-leader, Claire ■ DeKort; Secretary' Leona Crete; Treasurer, Lorraine Lynch; Weight Recorder, Dawn Dennis; and Assistant Weight Recorder, Jean Phillips; bowed out gracefully and made room for the new. The installing officer for the evening, evening, Lorraine Lynch, swore in the new executive. They are: Leader Al- freda Wheeler; Co-leader, Tammy Fleming; Secretary, Claire DeKort; Treasurer, Claire Strong; and our Weight Recorder and Assistant Weight Recorder Dawn Dennis, and Jean Phillips agreed to stay on for another another year. We know you'll do a great job girls. Entertainment was then provided by the new executive. Dawn Dennis, Alfreda Wheeler and Tammy Fleming Fleming performed a very funny skit about situations that happen in the weight room. Claire Strong then did her impersonation of Dolly Parton, and sang a couple of songs. Alfreda Wheeler then donned top hat and tap shoes and demonstrated her dancing skills. It was a most enjoyable eve%; ning and great fun was had by all. TXm But sadly missed were ill members members Marion Almey and Helen Cook, who are recuperating at home. Carol Merton, the Director of Rehabilitation Services at Memorial Hospital, keeps Carol Roberts, the Secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, cool with an ice pack. This pack is one of many which are found in an ice pack machine used in cyrotherapy. This form of therapy uses applications applications of intense cold to treat a range of acute sports and orthopedic injuries as well as arthritis. With Merton and Roberts are Legion President Jim Connell and Ladies Auxiliary President Nyhl Sheehan and Memorial Hospital Executive Vice-President Eric Hanna. The Legion and Ladies Auxiliary contributed money towards the ice pack machine, a Transcutaneous Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulator (TENS) which is used in pain control and a portable, hand-held muscle stimulator. Time to browse and buy was allotted allotted from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Eldad bags and Hasti-notes were also for sale. Joyce Taylor was hostess and invited each one to have tek and cookies on arrival. Patsy Fetchison led in worship, using a "Communications" theme. Each member received some article related to die theme such as micro-chips, micro-chips, C.D. tapes, films, radio, computer computer discs, etc. Each new invention can store more information than before, before, but with all this technology we have lost our ability to communicate. We so seldom have to "talk" anymore. anymore. The items we held are useless unless put to their intended use. This was compared to the Bible and how we spread the word and share it with others. > V President Doris Hills conducted the business session. We decided, to "adopt a window" for the dining hall at Camp Quin-Mo-Lac. We will help the Sunday School with sandwiches for lunch following Anniversary May 29. Jean Taylor reported changes in "Proud to be Me" caterings. Donna Johnston gave a summary of Bay of Quinte United Church Women's Conference in Peterborough. Doris Hills reported on the Moderator's visit visit to Oshawa Presbytery.
