i Bowmanville Sea Cadets Win 4 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Wednesday, May 11,1994 Clubs and Organizations Big Brothers Bowl-a-thon Supporters Receive Awards Ribbons at Trenton Swim Meet The following Sea Cadets won ribbons at the flotilla Swim Meet in Trenton - Dave Bickcll, Kevin Folk, Chris Adams, Kevin Gilroy, Phil Sanders, Steve Wraith, Jcnine Daub- ney, Monique Sanders, Cathy Smart and Karla Tutkoluk. Monique Sanders Sanders won the overall top award trophy in the female 12-13 year age group. Monique went on to win a silver medal at the provincial swim meet at C.F.B. Borden. On April 21, the annual Navy League and Cadet Corps awards night was held at the Base Line Community Community Centre. The evening began with the corps doing "colors and prayers". The cadets were inspected by Commanding Officer Lt. (N) Don Foster C.D. accompanied by Navy League President Bill Rose and Royal Royal Canadian Legion representative Les. Cooper. Following inspection, the new entries were formally sworn into the corps by the Executive Officer Officer Lt. (N) Mike Carter C.D. The Commanding Officer announced cadet cadet promotions and handed out their new rank badges. The evening was then turned over to the navy league for the Awards presentation. Women Invited to Join Bowmanville B&P Club The Bowmanville Business and Professional Women's Club held : their most recent meeting on , 'April 21st, discussing resolutions to be presented presented at the 1994 Provincial Conference. The members of the Bowmanville Business and Professional Women's Club hold meetings once a month with a varied agenda dealing with topics pertinent to the advancement of women. Through acquiring more knowledge and insight, the club members can use their occupational capacities and intelligence for the betterment of others as well as themselves. themselves. The club, although not a service club, works diligently to support community projects. As an example, the club has provided assistance to the local YWCA in its work with disadvantaged disadvantaged women and children. The club awards bursaries to the three local secondary schools annually annually to encourage the recipients to continue continue their education. There is also an annual bursary for a student from the Centre for Individual Studies. One objective of the club is "women helping other women". This is achieved through networking and using our ingenuity to strive for equal opportunities and status for : women.' The club is also concerned with achieving high standards of service service in business, the professions and industry. Stimulating interest in federal, provincial and municipal affairs is another important aim of the club. An example of this has been the forum held by our local club before previous previous elections. Our local club is a friendly group of dedicated women with a wide range of occupations. All of the monthly meetings held by the club are open to guests.
