Wins Baseball Title with 13-7 Victory The co-ed baseball team at Vincent Massey Public School came away with the area championship after after finishing in first place at a 3-pitch tournament held on Thursday, June 2. In the final game, they needed needed extra innings to beat Lord Elgin by a score of 13-7. In round robin play, they defeated Central, and another team representing Lord Elgin. Fourth Loss in a Row Suffered Kendal Quantrill Chev-Olds by Eagles by Brad Kelly ; If the Kendal Quantrill Chev Olds Eagles are striving to reach a level of consistency early in their EOBA regular season, then they have achieved their goal. Unfortunately, that level has been consistently bad. Kendal dropped two more games on the weekend, 11-5 in Little Britain Britain on Friday night, and 4-3 on Sunday Sunday afternoon at home to Port Hope. ' The pair of losses raised their current losing streak to four games, and dropped their league record to a disappointing 3-5. Coming off a season in which they finished third in the league, with a 15-9 mark, the dismal start over the final four innings. Neither has come as a surprise. Currently, pitcher faltered, posting zeros across Kendal did have the lead in the game, although it was brief. After Port Hope opened with a ran in the top of the first, Jim Newton crunched a two-run double to put Kendal ahead 2-1. Port Hope went ahead 3-2 following following Scott Baron's two-nin homer, and then added a single ran in the fifth inning for a 4-2 lead. Kendal answered in their half of the fifth inning. Brad Robinson came home from third on a wild pitch to narrow the gap to 4-3. Port Hope pitcher Gord Kelly, who relieved starter Pat Fox in the fifth inning, and Kendal's Mike Robinson waged a pitching duel Kendal collected nine hits on the afternoon, while Port Hope had eleven. The loss wasted another good pitching performance from M. Robinson, Robinson, who lasted all nine innings. He struck out two while issuing only one walk. Kendal will be looking to put an end to the losing streak on Thursday night when they travel to Ajax. On Tuesday, June 7, the Clarington major peewee Orioles, sponsored by Branch 178 of the Royal Canadian Legion, Legion, played an exciting game against the Oshawa Legionaircs. Aaron McSwain pitched the entire game, allowing only three walks and throwing 13 strikeouts. The score was 2-1 Clarington at the end of the first, with a single by Dairen Kok and runs by Darren and Judd Woods. By the end of the fifth, the score had jumped to six runs for the Orioles, with singles by Paul Schofield, Jamie McCarthy, Peter DeVries and Aaron McSwain, with Joe Campa scoring two runs after being walked. Steve Dao hit a double in the sixth, and, with the field efforts of Steve De- Graaf, Greg Elliott, Russ Gaal, Jason McCulloch, and George Scharrenwe- ber, the final score was 6-1 Orioles. The team then travelled to Burlington Burlington on the weekend for a two-day tournament, pitting their skills against Guelph, Burlington and Hamilton. The Orioles lost to Guelph in the fist game despite a single by George Scharrenweber and bunts by Steve DeGraaf and Dairen Kok. The second game was better, both defensively and offensively, with the Orioles playing it down to the wire. With the tying run on third and the winning run on second for the Orioles, Burlington managed to steal the win by getting the third out before the runs came in. Final score was 5-4. The third game was pretty exciting, exciting, with all the fans and other teams cheering the players on. Steve DeGraaf DeGraaf hit two singles, with hits also by Darren Kok, Russ Gaal, and Paul Schofield. A double in the third gave Aaron McSwain two RBIs. All runs scored by both teams were in the third and fourth inning. The Orioles Orioles won the game 5-4.
