Happenings from Yelverton Area by Harvey Malcolm We are pleased to pass on through our column that Reverend Ross Benns is resting comfortably following following quadruple by-pass heart surgery , recently in St. Michael's'Hospital in Toronto. It is hoped he will be released released this week (June 7-10) to return , home to recuperate. No doubt the endless boring hours of convalescence convalescence would be shortened by letters or cards of get well wishes. Currently, one of the candidates in training for the ministry will be pinch hitting during Ross's sick leave. Mr. Bob McEwen of Lindsay presided presided on Sunday, Jiine 5th in the Jan- etville-Yelverton-Mt. Horeb charge and preached an interesting sermon on the Prodigal Son viewed from a new perspective. He will also be in charge of the various services on June 12th, June 26, July 3rd, July 10th and July 24. No services will be held on July 31 and August 7th. On Friday a.m. we had a short if unexpected invasion here at Malco- nia when over 70 Canadian geese dropped in for an hour or two on the adjacent com fields. Quite a pleasant sight. Yelverton annual Pork Barbecue on Friday afternoon and evening was an unqualified success - as a beautiful spring day and the support of a local group of customers who come year after year contributed to another successful successful venture. Around 400 paying customers patronized the event. Special Special thanks to those many volunteers who assisted in many ways with their efforts - baking and the many less glamorous jobs that must be done. Special thanks to June and Helen for their donation of tasty potatoes and for arranging the attendance of some two dozen of their friends from the Bowmanville area. The ribs and pork chops were cooked to perfection and the desserts were indeed mouthwatering. mouthwatering. A community venture of this nature nature does more than raise money - it cements a group of individuals working working together for a common goal. This weekend just passed, our immediate immediate family embarked on a new project - communing with nature in an outdoor project. We refer to our whole family motoring to Prince Edward Edward Country to the Sand Banks Provincial Provincial Park tent camping over the weekend. The Sand Banks Park has one of the finest beaches in Southern Ontario Ontario even if the water was a bit nippy at this time of year. Those present included Marti, Jane, Dionne, Danielle and Devon of Omemee, Mona, Ronnie and Taya Sharman of Lindsay, Mitzi Malcolm of Scugog Island, and Corrie and Harvey Malcolm of Yelverton. Meanwhile our son-in-law Duane Lewis and her friend Mark went bow and arrow carp fishing in Missina, New York and won a prize with their largest carp - a 37 pounder in that competition. Third Meeting for Senior Dairy Club On June 7, 1994 the Senior Dairy Club held it's third meeting at Tam- blyn's Farm in Orono. The meeting was opened by our President Carolyn Barkey, with the 4-H Pledge which was followed by the Roll Call and the minutes. Dr. Warren gave a demonstration demonstration and a talk on the different parts of the reproductive system. After the informative talk that Dr. Warren gave us we asked many questions. questions. When - we were done we all moved into the warm bam where we judged a class of cattle that Mr. Tam- blyn had prepared for us. After we were finished judging and giving reasons reasons we discussed our senior projects and broke into our groups of 3 and 4. When we finished our discussion on our senior project we planned our next meeting. When our meeting was over,we met with the Junior Dairy Club and had a wonderful snack supplied by Mrs. Tamblyn.
