Jeanne moved to Alberta in 1974 and has been self-employed as a communication consultant for the past 10 years. She currently lives in Edmonton with her husband Chris Zobcl and sons, Ryan and Nolan. She begins her new career next month with the law firm of Lucas, Bowker and White. David Mainse to Speak at Salute To Canada Rally This week Canada celebrates its 127th birthday as a nation. With the ever-increasing threat of disunity, Liberty Pentecostal Church decided it should say something great about this country under God. On Sunday, July 3rd, David Mainse of the 100 Huntley Huntley Street television program will be speaking at Liberty's Salute to Canada Canada Sunday. Services begin at 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. (outdoors). The entire community is invited to participate participate in the festivities. At the outdoor evening rally there will be free hot dogs and ice cream and a fireworks display. David Mainse has been hosting "100 Huntley Street" since the mid '70's and is seen daily from coast to coast in Canada. David is considered to be Canada's most prominent Christian spokesman. Along with Reverend Mainse, local gospel musical musical groups like the Switzer Brothers Quartet, Hiram Joseph and Midnight City will be featured. Pastor Rick Hilsden, host of the event, says "Canada is worth preserving. preserving. We need to take pride in this great nation and in the freedoms it gives us." Salute to Canada Sunday is all part of Liberty's effort to be a church that cares about the people in this community. FRIDAY, JULY 1ST MUSEUM CELEBRATES CANADA DAY -- Come one, come all! The Bowmanville Museum's annual birthday party for Canada is taking place on the Bowmanville Museum grounds July 1st. The event starts with a flag-raising at noon and the singing of O Canada. Durham MP Alex Shepherd will be a special guest. Some of the activities include music by Bonnie Cowle, magic by Earl Brown, face-pàinting, apple-bobbing, Shriner clowns, a reading tent, pony rides and sack races. Refreshments will be available and there will be free birthday cake, balloons and flags for the children. CANADA DAY AT ORONO PARK - The public is invited to join the Canada Day festivities which occur at the Orono Park from noon to 4 p.m. . CANADA DAY FIREWORKS - The Optimist Clubs of Newcastle Village and Bowmanville will present their Third Annual Canada Day Fireworks at Clarke High School July 1. The gate opens at 6 p.m. Music will be provided and there will be free give-aways to the first 500 kids. Refreshments will be available, or you can bring your own picnic. You're also invited to meet your local police, fire and ambulance personnel who will be visiting the fireworks display. CHURCH HOLDS BEEF BARBECUE - The Newtonville United Church will host its ever-popular Canada Day beef barbecue on Friday, July 1st. It runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Newtonville United Church. It will include clowns, magicians, wagon rides, hay rides, face-painting, balloon animals, maze crazes and a petting zoo. There is also a creative playground. Big Sisters of Durham and the Bowmanville Pathfinders will be there to serve treats and raise funds for their organizations. The party takes place July 1 and Sunday, July 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. FOR YOUR INFORMATION OSHAWA HOSPITAL EXPANDS DIALYSIS UNIT - Oshawa General Hospital was among Toronto area health-care facilities to receive $11 million which will be used for expanding dialysis services. Oshawa is to receive a one-time grant of $162,000 and annual funding of $909,000. This will enable the hospital to serve an additional 28 patients. Funding was announced by Ontario's healtli minister on Tuesday, June 28. ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS -- If you want to drink, that's your business. The purpose of these paintings is to perpetuate the memory of the late Col. R.S. (Sam) McLaughlin. Each of the paintings depicts an event, a place or achievement associated with Col. McLaughlin's life. Please come and meet the artists and see some wonderful works of art. This is the first time these painters have been shown as a group outside the Camp Samac Art Festival. For further information, call 623-7322 or 987-4844, THE GREAT FARINI -- A play based on the life and times of the rope-walker known by the stage name of The Great Farini will be presented by the Fourth Line Theatre Company in Cavan Township, The play opens July 6 and continues to August 7. Farini (whose real name was Bill Hunt) was a resident of Bowmanville in his youth. In 1859, he walked a tightrope across the main four comers of Bowmanvillc (King St. and Temperance St.) in preparation for one of his famous crossings of the Niagara gorge. DAY CAMP HAS ENVIRONMENTAL THEME - The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority is operating an Earth Keepers Environmental Day Camp at the Enniskillen Conservation Area. It runs on a weekly basis from July 4 to August 12. Bus pick-up locations will be established in Whitby, Oshawa and BowmanviUe. URBAN ANGLING DAY - On Saturday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be an Urban Angling Day at the Bowmanville Valley Conservation Area. This fun day of fishing is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Members of the Bowmanville Creek Angling Association will be on hand to offer tips to help you land a big one. Fishing licences are required for those aged 18 to 64. The Bowmanville Valley Conservation Area can be reached by taking Roenigk Dr., east from Waverley Rd. GIANT FAMILY PICNIC -- The Tourist Association of Durham Region invites everyone to attend a giant family picnic on Sunday, August 14, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It takes place at the Enniskillen Conservation Area. There will be fun for the whole family, including food and special activities. It's part of the Celebrate Durham '94 program which marks the 20th anniversary of the Durham Region. GO FOR THE GOLD -- The Durham East 4-H Go for the Gold Competition will take place at the Blackstock United Church on August 4.
