MacArthur MacArthur died in the Memorial Hospital, Hospital, Bowmanville, April 3, 1994. Bom in Manitoba to David and Ade- lia Milligan she was educated in Coldwater. She studied nursing and went to business college in Toronto and worked there until she married Merlin MacArthur in 1929. They made their home in Winnipeg until his early death in 1944. Edythe was a member of the Baha'i Faith and for many years served in far-flung places including Calgary. The Queen Charlotte Islands B.C., South Africa, Newfoundland, Labrador and Yellowknife. In 1954 she was named a . Knight of Baha'u'llah in recognition of her service service in the Queen Charlotte Islands. In 1972 she moved to Bowmanville Bowmanville where she helped form the first Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of Newcastle. For about twenty years she lived in the Senior Citizens' Apartment on Nelson St. Edythe is survived by two brothers, brothers, Peter and Edward Milligan and their wives; a sister Mrs. Irene Dunlop, Dunlop, a brother-in-law, Eric Johnson. She was predeceased by her three sisters, sisters, Doris Richardson, Verna Johnson Johnson and Isabelle Croft. The Baha'i funeral service was held at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home under the auspices of the Spiritual Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of Clar- ington. Mrs. Sue Lyons of Toronto brought a message from the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of Canada and Mrs. Helen Gardner of Oshawa paid a tribute on behalf of her family and friends. Jacob Oegema Bom and educated in Rietsum, Friesland, Jacob Oegema, aged 68, died in Newcastle, June 20,1994, following following a three month illness. Son of Jacob and Neeltje Oegema, he was married May 22,1954, to Elisabeth Elisabeth Oegema. An employee of General Motors, he retired seven years ago, and had resided at 206 Wilmot Trail, Newcastle, Newcastle, seven years. He had previously resided in Bowmanville. He was a member of the Maranatha Christian Reformed Church. Surviving are his wife Elisabeth, Nicholaas and Kathy Oegema, Campbell Campbell River, B.C., Irma and Rick Odecki, Windsor, J. Robert Oegema, Bowmanville, Edward and Julie Oegema, Oegema, Whitby, Charles Oegema, Campbell River, B.C., Susan and Gord McNeill, St. Thomas, nine grandchildren, brother Jan Oegema and sister Boekje Vanlingcn. Funeral services were held June 22 at Maranatha Christian Reformed Church, Bowmanville with Pastor Charles Fennema officiating. Funeral music was performed by Albert Van Belle and Stuart Devries. Pallbearers were sons Nicholas Robert, Edward and Charles, and sons-in-law Rick Odccki and Gord McNeil. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society were made in his memory. Frances Edward (Ted) Pethick A resident of Grosse Point, Detroit, Detroit, and a former resident of Bow- manvillc, Francis Edward (Ted) Pethick Pethick aged 90, died June 2, 1994, in Bon Secours Hospital, Detroit, U.S.A., of congestive heart failure. Bom and educated in Bowmanville, Bowmanville, he was the son of the late Charles Franklin (Barb) Pcthick and the late Mary Ina Paul. Ted's father was a well known barber who also sold life insurance at his barber shop located in Bowmanville Bowmanville where the Orchard Park Furniture Furniture store in now located, An honor student at B.H.S. he had enjoyed long distance swimming and tennis, in his earlier days. An avid reader, he had been employed as secretary secretary treasurer with Colonial Broach Company and as an accountant with Dodge Brothers. A member of the Grosse Point Yacht Club and a member of the Masonic Masonic Lodge, 32nd Degree, lie was also u fund raiser for the United Way, receiving an award from William C. Ford. Surviving arc a daughter Donna Ward Pcthick Gcnnelman, a son David David Ward Pcthick, four grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He was predeceased by a sister, Ina McNnughton.
