Ribbon Cutting Marks Historic Development A unique and historic ribbon cutting ceremony took place recently, thanks to the Municipality of Clarington and the Halminen Homes owners. A section of local farmland, a fieldstone homestead, became became the "Fieldstone Community" in Courtice. The original home of three generations of the Wilkins family was demolished and, showing considerable foresight, the beautiful multicoloured stones were saved, to be incorporated into the gates of the development, that can be seen on Trail's Road South. Opening ceremonies took place at the entrance to the sales office and model homes on a beautiful summer afternoon, in a lovely setting of shrubs, flowers and interlocking brick work. The Halminen staff had certainly looked into the history of the property and were thoughtful to invite the four remaining members of the Wilkins family to the ceremony. Before a large gathering, Babe Wilkins Brown, Oshawa; Ethel (Tess) Wilkins Balson, Hampton; Mary Wilkins, Meldram, Port Hope; Harold Wilkins, Hampton, joined the Halminen brothers, Councillors Councillors Larry Hannah, Mary Novak and John O'Toole in the ribbon cutting. Babe Brown spoke on behalf of the family members and gave a short history of the Wilkins family. A very special time was spent later, viewing family pictures, beautifully displayed in the sales office, and enjoying delicious refreshmments. Thanks to Halminen Homes' foresight in making this a memorable memorable day. --photo contributed The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, Wednesday, July 13,1994 11 Cana&tan Statesman Your Community .
