The custom made bronze plaque had been tom from the boulder using a crowbar, or similar tool, by somebody somebody with an obviously warped sense of purpose. This wasn't a spur of the moment act of vandalism. Most people people don't go for a stroll in the park with a crowbar. Therefore, an individual individual (or individuals) must have decided decided in advance what they were going going to do and what tools they would require for such a twisted act of destruction. destruction. I had fully expected to find that the flowers that surrounded the boulder had been trampled during the removal of the plaque but they had not. It was almost as if the pcrson(s) who removed the plaque made a deliberate deliberate decision not to ruin the flowers. flowers. There is a large mural in the park very close to the Memorial that wasn't even touched. If someone had a crowbar in their hands and was bent on general vandalism the mural would have been an easy target but it was not damaged. Someone appears to have had the specific agenda of destroying destroying the Memorial. The strength required to remove the plaque from the boulder where it had been bolted and cemented in place would probably mle out a youth or a woman. I can only assume it was a man (or men) bearing a gmdge against women. I find it scary and sad that he chose this violent way to express his anger. He chose to lash out at people who had already become become victims and rc-victimizc their memory. I am also disappointed by the low key approach taken by the Police regarding regarding this crime. To them it just appears appears to be yet another routine, random random act of vandalism. I feel certain that if the cenotaph in the Town Square had been similarly desecrated, there would be a more vigorous investigation investigation to find the culprits. I also imagine that there would be more of a public outcry if the cenotaph had been damaged. Despite this being a despicable act of senseless violence, I suspect that very few people in this town really care that it has happened. I find this very discouraging. Sincerely and sadly, Evylin Stroud.
