If anything, it increases. You can be a blood donor on Wednesday, August 3rd, when the Red Cross clinic comes to Bowmanville. It takes place at the Lions Centre on Beech Ave., from noon to eight p.m. New donors are always welcome. LIBERAL PICNIC -- The annual Liberal Party picnic will take place at the Ransberry Farm on Highway 115/35 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. It will include a beef barbecue, music, refreshments, and guest speaker Gerry Phillips, MPP. THURSDAY, AUGUST 4TH PREVIEW OF CLARINGTON DAY - On August 4th, the media will be invited to get a preview of the Clarington Day events which' will take place at the Canadian National Exhibition. Temperance St. will be closed to traffic for this special event which includes an appearance by the CNE hot air balloon, the Medieval Times Knights and the Bowmanville Zoo elephants. The special events will last between 9:30 a.m. and noon. Members of the public are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served, with all proceeds going to the United Way. The Clarington Day activities are slated for August 31st at the CNE. FREE YOUTH ROLLER-BLADING - The Optimist Club of Newcastle is sponsoring youth roller-blading or roller, skating on August 4th in the Newcastle Memorial Arena. It takes place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Bring your own skates and join the fun. KINSMEN CARNIVAL BEGINS -- The Bowmanville Kinsmen Club will offer rides, games and fun for the whole family at its carnival on August 4, 5, 6 and 7. The carnival takes place at the Bowmanville Recreation Complex. It had been re-scheduled due to inclement weather during the June 25th carnival weekend. eeeeeeeeeeee SATURDAY, AUGUST 6TH SUMMER ARTS FESTIVAL - "Everything Under the Sun" is the name of the Visual Arts Centre's festival planned for Saturday, August 6th. It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include hands-on workshops, live music, story-telling, original crafts for sale, refreshments, and the gallery exhibition. Admission is free. PURPLE LOOSESTRIFE WORKSHOP - On Saturday, August 6, the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority will host a free "Project Purple" workshop in the recreation building at Enniskillen Conservation Area. The workshop begins at 7:30 p.m. and is to be conducted by the Project Purple team. This group, which is sponsored by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, is educating the public about the dangers of purple loosestrife. Purple loosestrife is a weed which gradually takes over wetlands and chokes out native vegetation. This education program will help you learn how to protect wetlands and remove purple loosestrife. FIREWORKS - The Bowmanville Kinsmen club will hold a fireworks display at their carnival. The fireworks begin at 10 p.m. The carnival continues from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, offering games, rides, and family fun. It's at the Bowmanville Recreation complex. SUNDAY, AUGUST 7TH SHOW AND SHINE - The Optimist Club of Bowmanville will be holding its 8th annual "Show and Shine" at the Enniskillen Conservation Area August 7th. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This will be a mammoth outdoor display of rods, customs, antiques, classics, special interest cars and street machines. Proceeds from the day will support the club's many youth programs. LAST DAY FOR CARNIVAL - The Bowmanville Kinsmen Club's Carnival concludes today at the Recreation complex. ONTARIO FINALS RODEO - Ontario's top cowboys and cowgirls will be riding into Orono in September for the Ontario Rodeo Association 1994 Finals. The rodeo will be at the Orono fairgrounds September 23, 24 and 25. It includes steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, calf roping, team roping, and bull riding. FLUTE CHOIR PERFORMS IN BOWMANVILLE - The Clarington Flute Choir will present a concert on August 15th in the Court Room above the Bowmanville Fire Station. The Clarington Flute Choir, under the direction of Lynda Shewchuk, consists of nine flute students in senior grades. MIDNIGHT MADNESS - Another of the Bowmanville Business Improvement Area's ever-popular Midnight Madness sales is coming your way next month. The deadline for nominations is August 10th, with judging to take place in the final weeks of August. Judging will be done by the Newcastle, Orono and Bowmanvillc Horticultural Societies. United Way Holds Yard Sale Staff at the Bowmanville Canadian Tire store, along with families And friends, donated items for a United Way yard sale held at the tore on the weekend of July 30 and 31. Durham Performers Ready For the Spotlight at Jubilee The spotlight will be on some of Durham's most talented seniors as they take the stage at Roy Thomson Hall during Royal Bank Seniors 1 'Jubilee, 'Jubilee, August 15 to 18. They'll be joined by more than 800 entertainers from across Ontario during this sixth annual Jubilee, the largest all-seniors entertainment in Canada. Among those performers from Durham will be Adrienc Stewart, a singer, the Golden Slippers and Wii- mot Creek Blue Angels. They were selected to appear at the Jubilee after a rigorous and competitive audition process. Royal Bank lias sponsored the concerts for four years, and sees the event as a chance to show its support for a growing and vibrant seniors' community. "This is a very professional professional show," says Gordie MacKen- zie. "And we're thrilled to be involved involved in giving these talented seniors seniors the chance to stmt their stuff in a high-profile setting like Roy Thomson Thomson Hall." Last year, all four days of the Jubilee Jubilee were sold-out, with large groups of seniors travelling to the concerts from communities across Ontario. Royal Bank has planned events for many of the local seniors attending attending the concerts later his month. A list of events in Durham is attached.
