Baseball Season Entering Final Innings as Playoffs Begin PRO HOCKEY TRY-OUTS -- A couple of former Bowmanville Eagle Jr. C hockey players have received invitations to try out for a minor league professional team. Goaltender Drew Campbell and defenceman Drew Allenby will be attending the training camp of the Columbus Chill of the East Coast Hockey League when they hit the ice in mid-September. Columbus is affiliated with Hershey of the American Hockey League, who supply players to the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League. The try-out was arranged by Eagles' manager, Mike Laing, who has been a longtime friend of Columbus head coach and former NHL'er, Moe Mantha. The Bowmanville Langley Utility Falcons find themselves in a must-win situation in their senior 'D* series against Little Britain, after dropping the first game 13-3 at Soper Creek Park last Sunday afternoon. MVP for Orono Volleyball Star Orono's Daryl Reid continues to be one of the most valuable players with Ontario's provincial volleyball team. The Clarke High School student led Ontario to the gold medal at the recently completed East National Team Challenge Cup that was held in Sherbrooke, Quebec.
