Fire Department to Receive Pumper Truck from Hydro The Clarington Fire Department is getting a 1979 King Scagrave 840 pumper truck free of charge from Ontario Hydro. Although the truck is 15 years old, it will not be pressed into primary primary response, but used as a training training vehicle and as an emergency back-up unit, states a report from Fire Chief Michael Creighton. The truck comes with 26 pieces of equipment including two water wqlls nozzles, two fiberglass ladders --; one 10 foot and one roof, and a Jaws of Life package. ! Chief Creighton told council members on Tuesday night, Sept. 6, the move will save taxpayers $10,000. Besides that "equipment will come in handy" if needed, Chief Creighton said. Councillor David Scott wondered how it is that "the municipality gets something for nothing." Chief Creighton explained to councillors the truck was part of the preliminary discussions that took place sometime ago in regards to the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station Station and municipal council. With the construction of a new Bowmanville fire station and the expansion expansion of firefighter services, the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station Station will no longer have its own fire department.
