Trull, son of John Trull. The year was 1795. NEW TOWN HALL -- The Bowmanville Town Hall (as we know it) was completed in 1904, being opened in February February of that year. The cornerstone of the Town Hall was laid in 1903. Costs were projected to be $12,306. Previously, Previously, the Bowmanville Town Hall had been located at the comer of King and Temperance St., where today's Bank of Montreal can be found. COWS RUN AT LARGE -• In an election held on January 1, 1898, voters had a chance to register their opinions on the issue of allowing cows (and other animals) to run at large. The majority of voters opted to discontinue the practice of allowing the cows to wander at will. But the issue was a hotly-contested topic among the citizens. It was estimated that in the 1890's at least half of the residents living in the less-densely populated areas of town kept a cow as a handy source of milk. THE FIRST MOTOR CAR -- It is not known precisely who owned the first motor car in Bowmanville. However, the book "Bowmanville: A Retrospect" offers three likely candidates as the first owners of motorized transport in the community. They were: D.B. Simpson, Fred Foster and Dr. A.S. Tilley. NO BICYCLES ON SIDEWALKS -■ In 1864, council minutes indicate the passing of a by-law preventing the operation operation of velocipedes (two-wheeled or three-wheeled vehicles powered by the driver) on town sidewalks. It's an issue issue which still faces present-day law-makers.
