8 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, Wednesday, October 5,1994 Newcastle Town League Opens 50th Year of Contact Hockey There was reason to celebrate at the Newcastle Arena on Sunday evening, as the men's league celebrated celebrated their 50th year of contact hockey in the village. As part of the year-long birthday, an alumni game is planned for Saturday, February 4, beginning at 8:00 p.m., with proceeds going to the local food bank. Taking part in the official opening of the 50th season are league convenors Randy Riopelle and Larry Carrol, while Roger Yates and Dayrell Rowe prepare to take the faceoff. Win and a Loss As Minor Atoms Battle Opponents The minor atom Toros went 1-1 to open the' season under the tutoring tutoring of new coaches Peter Appleton and Rick Lefort.
